Manager Mauricio Pochettino

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Speaking as a USMNT fan, everybody always knew Poch was here for WC 2026 and would seek a club job thereafter. I don't think there would be any controversy at all if it became public knowledge that Poch was heading to Spurs after the WC.

Now, Poch himself might feel differently about wanting to keep his focus on his current job. But it wouldn't be a Jacques Santini situation

When the orange man is involved, you can never really assume what the reaction would be

Oh my god a Trump Truth Social post about Spurs would be incredible.

But to give you the temperature of the USA fanbase, if results are bad, we are primed to turn on the players rather than Poch. It's time for this Golden Generation to show the grit and desire to fight for the national team that their less-talented forebearers reliably demonstrated.

He's not getting a sniff of that job. He did so well last time he had a difficult dressing room, full of big egos, spearheaded by a certain Kylian Mbappe.

We're the biggest job he's getting, even in the championship.
Thing is, who is a good fit for the Madrid job? If one of the brightest young coaches in world football who also has a deep connection with the club can't last 6 months then who is gonna last? This young breed of managers who have complex systems and require non-stop pressing will get eaten alive there, while there aren't too many of the old 'vibes' managers left. Ancellotti isn't going back so who are they gonna turn to?

They basically need a figurehead more than a conventional manager - someone to wrangle the egos and keep the squad happy. Poch didn't do brilliantly at PSG but he was at least quite popular among the players and has managed a mega club full of egos, so I can see him ending up high on their list almost by default.

Looking at the bookies odds, Klopp is favourite - think that's about the only job that could lure him back to management - but after that it's Jose, Arbeloa, Allegri, Zidane and Poch.

Probably won't be him but think he's definitely got a sniff if Klopp says no. Especially if Mbappe is pushing for him.

You’re wrong on that one
Agreed. The bar has been set so low I think next season will be a good time for Poch (or any decent manager) to join.

The fanbase have been starved of wins and good football for 2 years now barring a handful of games in Ange's second season.

If Poch comes in and even just does OK I think the fans will be content for a while. I think most fans just want to enjoy watching football again and not go in to every game expecting us to lose. They won't be demanding miracles - they just want some degree of competency and a style of football that doesn't make them want to claw their eyes out.

They need an Ancelotti type. Someone who's not going to put too much emphasis on systems and control. The players there rule the asylum and they need someone to make sure it doesn't get out of hand. Zidane had the respect, same as Ancelotti. Poch would get eaten alive, like he has done before.

Poch is only "in the running" because he clearly wants a club job, so he's sticking his ass out at anyone that listen, getting his people to go to the press, make his name relevant. Never, ever happening. He'll be here, whether that's the PL or Championship, he ain't getting a bigger job than us. His career has went on a straight trajectory since February 2019.

Take out the emotional side of it, and it's very obvious why he's not the vogue name anymore. Unless the US have an insane world cup, but even then, I doubt he gets many suitors.

Mbappe reportedly likes him, that's the only reason he's in the frame.

You would think Poch would be smart enough not to take another job where the inmates run the asylum, but he hates Barca so....
Mauricio "I want to be the manager not the coach" Pochettino, ain't getting control of shit there. It's just talk from his people to get his name back into club management again.

He'll be here regardless of what happens this season. Outside of Spurs fans, his stock is as low as it was before he went to Southampton, and the owners will be desperate for any positive PR. He's also been linked with the United job again, he won't get that either.

For better or worse Carrick is gonna be in charge at United next season IMO, CL qualification is theirs to lose and favourable results away at Chavs and home to Liverpool would all but seal it for them, the one thing sorely lacking at United has been continuity and it would be laughably short-sighted of the current board to ditch their only sign of it in the entire time Jimmy boy has been in charge of proceedings. If he had come here and replicated the results he's had so far at United we would be baying for the board's blood if there was talk of replacing him come season end.

I kinda feel like that's exactly what happened at PSG, though. They were so ludicrously top heavy and none of their forwards liked to do any defensive work so he abandoned any semblance of a high press and basically just let the forwards do what they wanted. I think this is part of the reason he didn't do brilliantly at PSG but also why he's one of the few managers that Madrid might look it. The list of managers that have experience managing super clubs with huge egos is getting increasingly short.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's favourite by any means, but when you look at the list of candidates I really don't think it's as unlikely as you're suggesting. If Klopp and Zidane say no it's a very short list of viable managers indeed. Could be a Nuno at Spurs situation where he almost gets it by default (especially if Mpabbe wants him).

Anyone else finding the whole Poch love in a bit embarrassing?

I know we’re desperate but the level of fawning is way over the top. He might not even come back as manager

It’s naive to think he’s suddenly going to turn us around (even if he does)
