Also how difficult is it to apply the same tactics, not just staff, but same approach that saw us beat Chelsea away, at Brighton? Or in the semi?
Some people say our problem is he sticks too rigidly to our philosophy.

My complaint is we dont. Our game is pressing off the ball relentlessly, attacking with pace, defending from the front, bossing the middle. This should be the same regardless of formation.

We dont do it enough. Even during our good run, some games were touch and go. When he stops us pressing, we are, basically, rubbish.

For me I think Poch's biggest faults are changes during a game. The plan B accusation is way off in my opinion.
He has developed us to play a 343, 4231and 433 effectively, but rarely his mid game changes have a desired effect.

I dont think his mentality is a problem though, I think he is struggling to keep all players motivated, in this climate of "Im worth more".
Walker, Toby, Rose and Dier have already shown signs that Pochs vision is not shared. Pochs vision is the same as the fans, a romantic one, but certain players dont care about the new ground, they care about money.
Its not trophies, because if they applied themselves and committed to us, they could win trophies here.

Poch also needs to abandon the chess game approach. I cant remember winning a single game playing like that....we need to play to the players strengths and thats pressing and moving the ball.
We tend to pander to "big teams" and show them too much respect, so instead of talking about the elite, we need to just be the elite.

The summer will the most difficult for a while....it will either make us or break us I feel, but this same old same old cycle needs to change either way.

Like you I don't think it's his mentality per se but I do think he needs to show an ability to change the team's shape or personnel during matches and before events.

We struggle more so it seems when leading and then being hauled back by big teams or in tight matches against them.

We either believe he willl develop that capacity or accept that he is already at peak. I prefer and think thr former.

Does anyone remember how shit we used to be? Get rid of Poch and you will pretty quickly. CL 3 years running? We do that all the time - it’s a piece of piss. Do people actually want to us be playing in front of 20,000 in the Europa?

I would happily take being relevant in the PL (2nd, 3rd, 4th) for the next 10 years, even if that meant no trophies.

It was fucking boring when our league season was over in Feb / March for about 15 years in a row.

100% agree with this. However it comes with a caveat and that's many of our fans would have to be culled, it would appear the better we are as a team, the more some of our fans have turned into Woolwich fans.

It’s that self entitlement, plenty seem to have short memories or not supported us during that period of us being pretty garbage from mid90s to mid 00s. Some of us older lot at least experienced a time when we were successful in cup competitions. However it’s only under this Poch era that we’ve been so consistent in terms of the league.

Such as relying on a win away (technically) to Wimbledon on the penultimate round of the '98 season to avoid relegation!

Please, don't remind me! :klinsmann:

What I find odd is people lauding our season to defend Poch, then going over into the full back thread and using our poor season to slate Davies and Trippier
This is the best Tottenham team I've watched in 45yrs and it's been built, nurtured and developed by Poch. Right about now he walks on water for me, I can spend time focussing on the odd game hear and there to make criticisms of him but why would I want to do that? It's feels such a waste of effort and for what purpose would it serve?

As for the players I will love them and support them so long as they play for the club and want to play for the club.

As for our Fullbacks, Davies isn't as good as Rose but has played brilliantly for over a season without rotation, if I were the manager I'd pick him over Rose purely because he wants to be here and Rose doesn't. As for our right backs, Trippier isn't nor has ever been at the level required. In some games, last handful he's turned up and I can't fault his attitude but he's been poor both with and without the ball. Prior to the last few games I'd question his mentality too, never convinced he wants to show for the ball by not making the angles to receive it off a team mate, hiding behind an oppo player, also twice not busting a gut to prevent, put off, challenge or foul the oppo as they had a free run on goal (and scored from both opportunities) is totally inexcusable in my book. I've been consistent from the day we first played him (when we rotated him with Walker), I think he's shit and have always said so (on the handful of games he's played well, to which I guess has been about 5, I will always acknowledge this for some balance) but he's shit and IMO our weakest link in the squad. IMO Kyle Walker-Peters is more technically proficient than Tripps, however I acknowledge he might not yet have the stamina to play at PL level yet(??). But I would sell Tripps now, he will be going to Russia and his stock will be artificially inflated because of it, I'd cash in and get another in now.

I think Aurier will be fine and close to what Walker has given us prior to him leaving next year, not convinced he as the pace as some seem to think he has. He has to work on staying on his feet and getting the balance right of when to engage and when to drop off, this isn't a biggie for me and can easily be taught. And yes, Walker was and still is the best RB in the Prem buy quite some margin.

If Rose leaves we need a new LB, one that has pace and a high technical proficiency on the ball would be wonderful, particularly a player that can take on the oppo on the outside (Davies can't go on the outside, however what has impressed me with him is his work on the inside).

The best I've ever seen us play has been with both Rose and Walker on their respective games and in the team together, we have to aim to have our FB pairing on these levels to give us our balance, width and provide a variety and ability to get behind the oppo more than we have done with Tripps and Davies this year.

For me the notion of getting rid of Poch is absurd, but as pointed out before, it was his weird and misunderstood comments that gave rise to the notion.
I dont find talking about it as some kind of gooner level Wenger Out campaign, and honestly think people are too sensitive.

Again, I find the notion fucking stupid, but not as stupid as people (not you) saying this is the best team they've seen since Burkinshaw, but the full backs are rubbish. Doesnt make sense.
The entire team could be improved on in theory, Kane and Poch too, so why is Davies fair game?

People cant gloss over Davies input against Madrid, yet laud Poch for the same game, people blaming Wembley and fatigue for the forwards playing shit, but none of that counts for Trippier.
Rose has done fuck all to win his place back in the chances he's had, yet people are acting as if we are suffering without him....its not 2015 Im afraid.
Again, where do people think we would be if Walker stayed? Seriously? Challenging City? Comfortably in 2nd or 3rd? Because of a RB who has 6 assists and no goals in 30 games this season, 2 more than Trippier who has played 9 less games?

Its nonsense to be honest, and the simple truth is if Kane was actually in form, we might never be talking about this. But why blame Kane, when you can slate the full backs.

Slightly off-topic, but I just took a look at the first PL-era final table. Made me feel quite nostalgic. There was a quiz on the BBC's web site recently - you had to try to recall the 21 teams that had played in League One after having played in the Premier League. 11 of them (highlighted) played in the inaugural PL season!

Manchester United
Aston Villa
Norwich City
Blackburn Rovers
Queens Park Rangers

Liverpool
Sheffield Wednesday
Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester City
Woolwich
Chelsea
Wimbledon
Everton
Sheffield United
Coventry City

Ipswich Town
Leeds United
Southampton
Oldham Athletic

Crystal Palace
Middlesbrough
Nottingham Forest
