Manager Mauricio Pochettino

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The club/levy/ Pochettino or whoever should nail this first thing tomorrow put it bed he’s going nowhere end of! Having this hanging for the next few weeks is going to be fucking awful....

I'm worried. It must be hard saying no when Real Madrid comes calling. Who knows how many more chances he'll get coaching the best team of all time. Hope he stays.

Jesus, this place is fucking mental sometimes. So I'm guess that this means nothing now? It was only a week ago...

Everyone's ecstatic and it's a sign that he's here for the long-term and he's had his assurances from Levy of his support.

All the sudden Zidane quits and he's leaving. :pochfacepalm:

To be fair. Signing contracts don't necessarily mean anything in the grand scheme of things besides a pay rise for Pochettino.

If Real Madrid WANTED HIM over everyone, they'll go for him.

It'd then be down to Pochettino to decide if he wants to stay and become a legend or leave for much much much more money and either the likelihood of success and trophies or failure and a tarnish to his team.

Personally, I think it's media bullshit and he'll stay.

I’m up for a funny post an all but I’ve just been a little bit sick in my mouth

For the most part, I completely agree. His contract was to get him more money and to increase the value for him to the club, but we all know that the completion date of any contracts don't mean all that much anymore.

That being said, he literally signed it a week ago today. Could it happen? Sure, but this is media shit-stirring, and I don't believe that it is in Poch's character to even entertain it.

Don't worry - it won't happen.

You might as well get on Guti at 5/1.

I know what you mean about contracts, Totti, but in this particular case I just don't see Poch signing that new deal literally days before the CL final (which was already raising doubts over Zidane's future if he'd lost it) unless he's genuinely set on being here and continuing the project rather than anywhere else.

You misunderstand Marca, they're not "Madrid’s mouth piece", they're just very well connected. They have a hack in the RM press office, just like they have one in Atleti's and probably Barça's as well (they're not anti either of those clubs you'll be surprised to hear, unlike their counterparts Sport and El Mundo Deportivo in Barcelona)

I don't expect you to believe me, but that's how it is. It's generally speaking a very good sports paper with some very good sports hacks working for it.

Hah, before he goes it’s because spurs can’t keep hold of him

If he doesn’t go, it’s because they never wanted him and he’s not won anything

To sign a new contract and leave the same summer is just not who Pochettino is.

Read the book!

I think Zidane leaving now is great timing for us. Means they won't be back for Poch for a couple of seasons and a top level manager will go there instead of the premier league.

Reminds me a bit of when the FA fucked around with Harry. I remember thrashing Newcastle 5-0 and the ground singing for Pardew for England. Main difference this time is that I don't think Poch will leave at all. Or be in court covering his arse from accusations of fraud. Or signing Ryan Nelson. So actually it's not really in any way similar.

Only similarity is that Pardew has 0% chance of either job.

God I miss WHL.

As you were.

I know, I know, still a bit squeaky mind. Hard not to be.

I was there that night. I don’t get to many games, so that one sticks in the memory vividly.

As for Pochettino, he’s obviously not stupid. He’s seen how Madrid have performed in Spain, and even took 4 points off Zidane’s team in person. He would have known that there was a high probability of the Madrid job becoming available, so if he was interested would he really sign a new contract with us?

The Madrid job is a poisoned chalice. Maybe in ten years he’ll fancy spending 2-3 years on the Madrid managerial merry go round, but he’s in a great position right now and he knows it. Madrid will be looking for a new manager every other year or so, so it’s not as if this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Me too.

I know I defended Marca above but have no doubt they will be reporting what is coming out of Madrid, they're not inventing this stuff or even driving it. It should be remembered that they were 95% right on the whole Bale saga throughout the summer when we were all clinging to stuff like Gibbon Boy calling his daughter AVB (Alba Violet[?] Bale - and hey, me too, I remember telling a Madridista just this, embarrassingly) and howling at Marca for making shit up out of thin air.

LIke I said earlier, a swift and conclusive denial from Pochettino would be a treat, to put everyone's mind's at rest and also not hinder the *cough* hopefully ongoing negotiations with our key players for their new contracts and those with our potential new signings.

Like it or not, the press (in Spain, the UK and elsewhere) will love the uncertainty at a time when beyond Sterling's tatoo there's not much to talk about

Pochettino if is intelligent remains at Tottenham without giving in to the lures of Real Madrid. Zidane leaves a team that has won 3 CL: the “ locker room “ how will welcome a coach who has not won in the same way?
Cristiano Ronaldo then maybe he goes away and then the new coach could be like scapegoat.
Pochettino must continue in the "Spurs project". When he has exhausted the fire he will then be able to go and look for new dreams. Now he has not done enough in London.
