England at World Cup 2022 beat Iran and Wales and Senegal to reach a QF.

England at Euro 2024 got to the Semi Final only having beaten Serbia, Switzerland and Slovakia. The only decent team they beat to get into the final was Holland.

Sometimes the draw can be kind, and you might actually get to a final having only beaten 1 decent team on the way.

Argentina won the world cup having beaten Mexico, Poland, Australia, Holland, Croatia and France. They didn't meet a decent team until the final; and only scraped past Holland on penalties.

Argentina-Holland was a cracking game of football between two excellent teams, I think it would only be fair to say.

And then yeah, you can only admire that Croatian generation for all they accomplished, but it really does suck that in their death rattle they found that miraculous equalizer at the death to deny what would have been an all-timer Brazil-Argentina semifinal.
 
Poch teams always required drilling into the squad his press and style. He doesn’t have that luxury when it’s 10 days on, 2 months off.

I still have some faith that come next year, he will be able to implement his system in time to make a little noise at home.

He should have what, 2-3 weeks prior to the start to drill the team and then a group stage that lasts 2 weeks in a 48 country WC, so I’m assuming the groups will be a bit diluted. That means over a month of time together prior to any knockout match (which would likely also be a match we’d be even at worst) where he will be able to work with the first team.

That means shit, no team will control all the game. And If you watch Argentina in any game you'll see they do that almost every game, they don't attack 90 minutes, instead they let the other team play and control the tempo with pressure in the right areas and fouls. The way they play is perfect for international football and saying they faced only bad teams to reach the final is bullshit.

But then you also have to concede how completely brainwashed some folks are about him due to him not serving up great football for us for a year.

It doesnt mean he never has done or his past achievements can't be spoken about positively. It doesnt make him a cunt....
 
Just give it to him. Yeah we won’t be as good as we were under him the first time but I’ve given up on going to the next level under this ownership anyway. I’ll take some stability at this point.

And yes if we do get stability I’ll probably start complaining about that too but I’d rather that than whatever it is we have now.
