Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He was poor defensively today I thought, got beaten on a few crosses, didn’t even get off the ground for a few of them. Got done with a ball over the top that Kinsky came out for. I think I got suckered in by the pace but I’m questioning if he’s actually just a bit of a poor defender. Think he might be playing himself out of a move to a top club. I’m completely fine with selling him in the summer for a reasonable fee.
He'd look a lot better in a better side. Happy for him to move on, think he's had enough here now anyway and you can't blame him. He is overrated imo but he's still a decent player, million miles away from being the weak link in this squad thats for sure!

Yeah, in a side that dominates hed be an asset with his pace if you get caught on the break and when he’s got time he’s a decent passer and carries the ball well.

Saying that I’m not convinced by him as a player. Even in his first season he was really rash with some of his defending, completely selling himself. Or just smashing it out of play when he’d already eased the man off the ball. He also seems to get caught flat footed and square on with balls dinked over the top. Not good on crosses either. His one big asset is covering big distances well, tracking back or on the ball. I think he’s short in a lot of areas.

Just hope Van De Ven's value hasn't gone down too much. Not a chance Liverpool buy him.

Some posters want an Olympic sprinter who does the odd good thing well. Give me a central defender who knows his craft, and gives his all through thick and thin.

Get him out, alongside his useless captain.

Romero will go to a big team for decent money because clubs can normally recognise good players in poor functioning teams better than fans. Romero is a good player. VDV I’m not so sure about now. He’ll have options but not sure what sort of money clubs will be offering

The reason his "pace" always features in every article about him is because he is always fucking in the wrong position initially and everything else that follows is him just panicked, running as fast as he can to try to undo the damage his lack of positional awareness caused.

Chellini could hardly walk let alone run yet he spent decades shutting out every speed merchant striker he faced.
The same applied to Sheringham. Walking frame pace but understood spatial awareness and positioning and took that all the way to Spurs /Manchester/England.

Get rid... and bring in a kid who will make the same mistakes initially but with good coaching will quickly learn and not throw a wibble when asked to improve his defending 🙄

Enough of this shit.
Dash this pussyhole in May and 'see yah laterz' ...

With all these players, there is a large part of it that depends on how he responds to RDZ, and obviously what RDZ thinks of him. VdV has disgraced himself this season, and has shown when the going gets tough, he's a little pussy. That raises question marks about the guy ultimately, but doesn't mean he couldn't be a good player in a good, functioning team. I won't be upset if he goes, if we get good money, and equally would be happy if he stays and plays for the shirt.

Only really Danso, Gray and maybe Xavi (any others???) have actually shown real mettle in adversity this season. It's those players I'd most want to keep.

Carrick another example.

He's such an overrated player. He's a poor defender. We should absolutely cash in on him.

A big part of our problem the last few seasons have been Romero and VDV (and our fullbacks) to be honest.

We don't have a single proper defender among any of them.

VDV has pace, but no other attributes of a top CB. Any side that signs him will be making their defence worse.

I think VdV has the potential to be a better defender than we're seeing. In another, more settled side without the season's drama we've had and strong defenders around him, I think his pace gives teams something they might not have. He still has to learn some elements of defending (he's useless in the air).

Do I think he'll be with us next season? No, not really. From the signs, it seems he isn't invested in the project.

If we stay up and RDZ turns that around, he will be doing well.

Is he in the wrong position? Or is he where he's being told to be?
Definitely that was a huge feature of "Angeball"

I'm not bothered either way if he stays or goes. If he stays, he needs to step up, as his performances this season have left a lot to be desired. If he goes, I hope we fleece the buying club.
He was visibly upset at the end of the game on Saturday, definitely looked as if he had been crying. But if he's chomping at the bit to leave whatever happens, don't think we'll miss him, TBH.
Shame it's turned out like this, as most of us loved him. Only brought it on himself, so little sympathy for him.

I agree 100%.

We need at least one out and out defender of quality, and a better goalkeeper.

The back 4 are very much overrated.
