Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’d be looking to bring in another left footed centre back with a similar profile. VDV is not a 30+ games per season player
Same. But Micky feels like the hardest player in the squad to find a back up with a very similar profile to. His speed is unique among CBs.

But CB has to be a priority this window. Even if it is just a loan for the rest of the season.

We needed a left sided defender in summer like Hindcapie who can cover LCB and LB. We are paying for not doing what was fucking obvious.

We do this every season. Have a clear hole in the squad, get injuries then get fucked. We never learn our lesson

Thing is.

When it works; it works well.

Spurs kill teams in ten to fifteen minutes.

When we go behind it is hard work to watch because of the low block tactics deployed for one game only against Spurs.

We see it regularly used against us which is why we get frustrated as supporters.

Both Villa and Ipswich used the gravy tactics because they were scared of getting a lumping. Villa did in the end but Ipswich hung on.

Spurs have scored more goals than any other Premier League team having wasted at least a dozen further top drawer chances we can all remember.

It's the defending.

It's not good enough.

Is it the tactics or the personel?

I know what I think.

I know that this is not the thread but I just find it so perfectly summarizing people who have strong belief in Ange.

As we know now -
We routinely actually FAIL to kill teams off. Even while being 2:0 up. That has been consistent and systematic so far this season. Started from game 1 failing to kill of Leicester, now in last game failed to kill of Chelsea.

Also it is next level entitlement to try to belittle oppositions regarding "they were scared of getting lumping". Fucksake, it is sport. It is about result. Every side does what is most efficient for them. Playing low block against our current approach has nothing to do with fear. Furthermore this sounds a lot like talking down on opposition, like our "go out all guns blazing" is inherently something superior. It is not. It is an approach that has yielded 20 points from 15 games so far.

Are Spurs EPL top scorers now really (hint - not anymore, not even after scoring 3 and still getting defeated). Fetishing goals scored or GD is something I absolutely do not get. Across all competitions we now have 1 win from 7 games. Yet the GD is 0 from the same period. So... is getting 1 out of 7 wins then maybe neutral too? Cause we have scored as many as conceded? Or is it actually piss-poor form?

Agreed about issue being defending.
But I know what I think - we play with absolute shit shape. Our defense is constantly under pressure whenever opposition manages to play 1 or 2 good passes out from their side. It is shockingly our of balance and our only option is to keep pressing madly for 90 minutes + extra time. Cause whenever press is broken, we have no shape and many players are sprinting back in full chaos. This has resulted in having 10 clean sheets from 53 games. And only 6 games from last 43 (!). At the same time we have conceded 2 or more in 23 games. And we have only won 2 of them - last one being last season 22nd game. So 7 games less then full season ago. This is absolute shit.

Davies is a LB and a back up one from almost 10 years ago. He 'became' a CB in a three under Conte, now he's being asked to play in a 2. It's not proper cover. And if he's doing that who's the LB cover?

2 on loan because they're not ready and won't be anytime soon.

Who are the 5? Biss, Sarr, Mad, Benta and? Gray and Berg are teenagers and not ready to provide week in week out cover. Kulu isn't a proper 8, it's an experiment that the jury is still out on.

Spence is a back up RB who never plays and hasn't been trusted by multiple managers at Spurs and on loan at other clubs. It's a hole effectively because he isn't good enough.

This squad is weak. Walker and Trips, Rose and Davies right off the top of my head. Dier, Toby, Jan, Sanchez.
We replaced Wanyama and Dembele with Winks and Sissoko as another example, we went backwards.

I think we're potentially building a good squad for the future but the current one is weak, padded out with youngsters (see above) or young men (Drag, VDV, Sarr, Johnson, Udogie) still learning their trade and suffering (and learning hopefully) in the process, but it's also costing us now.

If , as it now turns out , he left the
game on Sunday due to , ahem
“ cramp “ : I’d say he’s not 100 % physically and he’s getting thrown in before he’s completely fit .

Just my opinion.

Returning players often suffer cramp in their comeback match.

If a symptom of having not played a full intensity 90mins for a while.

That he was subbed off (rather than staying on and risking re-injury) isn't something to criticise; it's the player being correctly managed.
