Player Micky van de Ven

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Micky van de Ven says him and Romero asked Postecoglou to make tactical changes. “At one point, we just walked up to the gaffer and said that we need to change some things and play more defensive sometimes. We played away at Frankfurt and were 1-0 up, and we can’t keep attacking, we just need to come back and have a low block and make sure we get the three points. “We sat with him and he agreed with us on some things and he told us that he expected us two guys to sort this on the pitch – to make sure that this is something everybody knows and to speak to everybody on the pitch.“He said to me and Cuti personally that we need to make sure the other guys listen to us, that we have a reputation in the team and everyone respects us, so make sure the guys follow what we say on the pitch. So, Cuti and I were just screaming at everyone.”

Pretty damning of Postecoglou, isnt it?

He also says in the same interview, "to this day I still believe in his system because we played unbelievable football"

He spole highlyof Ange, they really believed in him. It’s amazing job to have players believe snd trust you that much even though the team isn’t performing.

I mean they literally won a trophy under him and the vast majority of them have had their best footballing memories with him

How the fek else are they gonna speak about him?

There's still people here think Ange proved us all wrong by his total 180 on tactics...Seriously Occam's Razor. That the players and Mason forced this on him is well known. Despite the deniers. Its the shameless way Postecoglou plays people gets to me. As for the I still believe in the system so do I, squad of 40, Man City resources it would be banging. Meanwhile back in the real world.

I doubt Frank can get to the end of the season if players don't want to play for him.

Micky has always given the impression of loving the club IMO. And he has generally played very well this season.
Expect this to be the first of plenty of such interviews the media have 'lined up' for us while we struggle....
These interviews never seem to come out on the back of a convincing win (not that there have BEEN many this season)
But as soon as the bump in the road is hit... out it all spills.

I just hope Mickey knows how this will read...

No coincidence that him AND Spence were the ones to voice their disapproval most visibly earlier this season... Then Spence does it again on Saturday... and now this.

Honestly, just do a blind poll between the players, cask them who THEY want in charge, and who' THEY'LL bust a guy for, and fucking go get THEM IN!

I hope the owners have someone who doesn’t owe them anything who will tell them straigh why Spurs are in a malaise. Why on earth should a fan base accept making the owners richer at the expense of spending what our rivals spend for success on the pitch?????

I’d expect some mumbo jumbo back about debt servicing, but very much doubt it substantially refutes the above point

I hope the owners can see why that selfishness, inflicted over a long period, has resulted in a general malaise and an angry impatient fan base.

Watched the entire hour thing, he speaks very highly of postecoglou throughout it. Perhaps him and Spence are/were really big ange supporters...or cultists as they would be called on this board

Think Frank needs a clear the air meeting with them all, listen to their ideas and concerns and change his approach otherwise he could be in for a rough old 5 months with this lot

I tend to think this rarely works.

If he asks them what he wants, changes his tactics as a result, hes basically conceeding he has it wrong.
And once power transfers from the manager to the players like that, he never really has a full and proper standing with them.

Its much better if he recognises the issues himself and adapts.

No-one's gonna be sitting there bemoaning the 17th placed finish after we won a trophy which meant to much to them, fans just need to get real - the fans won't forget the league season but the players have.
I'm torn really. When we finished in the top 4, for several consecutive seasons, me and others were still moaning about it not being enough, not winning any trophies. The cost of winning a trophy was finishing 17th. Maybe we need some balance, as you can't have it all unless you have amazing investment, a big squad and world class players/managers.

So maybe, we try to keep getting in the CL, but every now and again, also prioritise winning a trophy, if one looks within our grasp, accepting that it may compromise some league results/placings.

It's quite nice knowing that the jokes about the Spurs trophy cabinet have been ended!

Poch used to do that after bad situations

Look at the world man, charismatic Alpha male plays incredibly strongly to young men no matter how misguided or flawed. I've taught teen age boys if you have the personality they will deifiy you. Its not hard. Gone from 'Big Ange' larger than life weaver of dreams to a camp councillor with a clip board. Its another obvious handbrake turn the club never thought through. Frank needs to bin the blokes who will not follow him if that's Spence or Micky so be it. Spence was ready to physically protect Postecoglou and the bloke wouldn't give him a game. But hell he was Making Tottenham great again.

It's quite interesting considering we were getting absolutely battered every week and the crowd had turned on him and the players yet they all really rallied round him all the way to the final

Shame he wasn't a much better tactician as that's such a rare trait to get people onside no matter what

That's a problem.......

The win % last season - all comps - was shocking.

.......Something a manager should remind them of everyday; until it sticks.

The EL (and CL qualification) was a reprieve; it wasn't a cure.
