Player Mikey Moore

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’ve seen very little but praise for Mikey Moore over the last couple of threads. And overwhelming optimism. Which there should be, he’s doing extremely well.

I feel like people are acting like it’s a comparison between the two when it isn’t and there isn’t one to be had. One is a good bit older and doing different things elsewhere. We don’t need to compare them.

Dowman is just an easy go to due to his current age as an example of someone of this age breaking out being so rare. He’s broken records FFS.

Moore is also a very quick developer, just not quite as quick, and he’s seen difficulties as well and bounced back very early. Dowman might have the same stuff happen.
tbh i also think if you plonk Moore in that Woolwich team, you'd probably double his value, and multiply by a factor of 20 the amount of hype around him.

I think it’s more to do with an over focus on physicality at academies and various other reasons (some of which have been fixed now) but hey ho ..

I have no issues with players being chucked in at the deep end at all. But when you have a 16/17 year old starting every week then there’s a solid chance it might impact their career.

You can of course find exceptions to that. English football isn’t the issue - we did it with Rooney and Owen - it’s the same all over.

Sometimes a player is just too good not to do it with I.e Yamal.
My lad plays against academies and teams with ex academy kids a lot. It is amazing how large they are vs the average. My boy is also large, but is one of the 3 or 4 large players in his team. The academy guys literally have every player in the 90s percentiles for height.

Kinda sad, really. Must be so many more talented shorter kids that aren't making the cut simply cos they aren't deemed physically developed enough.

Hope the PL moves away from this Woolwich land of the giants physical shite. They really need to change the rules and stop set-pieces being such a big part of the modern game. That's not why most people watch football and it's only gonna get worse if academies think most players under 6 ft ain't worth their time.

It is definitely a big thing right now in football. Agree that smaller players are being overlooked. Over time the decline of heading might work in their favour tho.

I disagree re set pieces though. That's part of the game. What I do think is that the rules on contact need sorted, and stabilised. It's farcical that one season breathing on someone was a foul, and the next season manhandling them to the deck isn't. Very poor management of the game that.

Not sure what point is trying to be made here or if people are dismissing some facts.

Moore, if good enough will make it as a PL player. How good who knows.

There are numerous players who are under 6 foot who do just fine. Rooney wasn't that tall.Saka. is another. Messi of course. Silvas at City. The list is endless.

Set-pieces are a part of the game, so they need to be dealt with, but that lot have other ways of delivering if we are being honest.

I think it's about quality. If players are good enough they will make it. If not they won't.

On Moore, I see 2 or 3 Championship players who are just as good/better, but they are also older. We will see.

We just got side-tracked on to chat about academies!

Good thing is that Moore has actually had a very good season. I'd be surprised if he's ready for us next season though. Unless in the Champo. In which case I say bring him back.

I fear we are reverting back to the style of Football we had to suffer 40 years ago, when the rest of the World left us behind from a technical perspective. It was the type of mindset that saw Hoddle overlooked for the national side because he wasn't a blood and guts workhorse. Platini himself said that if Hoddle had been born French he's have over 100 caps.

It's not really the rules that are the problem, it's the people enforcing them. We went for decades with the same rules in Football without anywhere near the amount of issues.

I'll get accused of being a conspiracy nut, but I truly believe it is all by design, so the PL can select their Champions before a ball is kicked.

English Football has become another WWE

It was fun watching Joe Jordan and the rest like him though to be honest.

Agree on another season on loan, and most definitely f we avoid the drop

The Championship needs quality to get out of it, especially up top, and a big part of that is of course the supply line.

I have seen a few games, and alongside some decent team defending the big thing is the quality of attacking play, all within the context of the Championship. So it's good defence, good ability in midfield and strikers who can score, and team spirit. A quality striker beats nearly every defence in my opinion.

Right now if we dropped into the Championship with our squad, I'm not sure we would or could finish in the top 5.

Moore has shown he can beat players and has quality in his game. How good and how far he can go is an unknown, but he is somewhere near/between the heights of Messi and Saka, and you look at both and it's hard to see that he is quicker or as skilful, or as potent. They must be the barometer for top level.

This thread … now we are comparing Saka, who basically just kicks the ball off defenders to get a corner, with Messi? Jesus.
I wasn't sure where notabadsquad was going with that. tbh I will surprised, though it's by no means impossible, if Moore turns out to be as good a player as Saka has been. Even if Saka does seem to have declined since his injury. Messi should not even be in this conversation.

Saka is nowhere near Messi levels and if anything, is massively overrated like so many young Woolwich players.
I'd actually say that Moore is a more skillfull player than Saka,, who's a bit of a one trick pony.

Saka is fantastic and nowhere near Messi levels. Not many are/have been. I used him for ease and laziness.

Take your blinkers off re: Saka, who, however, has had a poor season by his standards.

Moore is nowhere near Saka right now. Nowhere near.

There's a place for the units, so long as you have the technical players to complement them.

What I find weird is that the game has been set up to favour technical players (minimal contact, Red cards for follow through s even if you win the ball), yet clubs are opting for exactly the type of players, and style of Football, that is most likely to be penalised, unless you're on of the "favoured" clubs of course.

Sorloth is kind of interesting. He looked rubbish at Palace, but he is very effective in Spain by the look of it.
