But at the end of the day, we can't force Gibbs-White to be willing to go nuclear with this dispute, and at the end of the day there will be no deal here if that doesn't happen.

Forest hasn't violated any obligation they have to Spurs, they have violated an obligation they have to Gibbs-White.

And understandably this is being reported as a dispute between the two clubs, but ultimately the accusations here are being made against Gibbs-White and his representation.

Why is he training? It's a demonstration of some combination of guilt with regard to the allegations or total unwillingness to antagonize the club to get the move.

Either way, that's the end of it. It's the same as if we couldn't agree personal terms with him, we don't have a player willing to join Tottenham on the situation offered to him.

Depends on the exact wording of the clause, but in theory, yes.

The clause would essentially say that Forest is obliged to accept any bid that is over X amount, and such acceptance would grant Gibbs-White permission to negotiate a contract with that club. So he can pick and choose among the valid bidders.

This is how it worked with Haaland and Liam Delap, though everybody knew what the clause was in that case.

Can you maybe just be patient and wait to see how this develops?

The curious thing about this is the deal was pretty much done and medical booked, now you dont do that without the knowledge and co-operation of the selling club so i guess the more sensible people at Forest had accepted this until Jabba got wind and had a temper tantrum.

In the example there is no club offering £60 million. There are two clubs, the player is contracted to the first, the second wants that player. There is a confidential NDA relating to the release clause between the first club and the player. The second club is not aware of the release clause nor of its contents. The second club offers £80 million, the first club accepts this. Because the release clause of £60 million has now been met, the sale goes ahead at £80 million, assuming that the player is happy with his personal terms.
Yeah that would be true if a team offered 80m but that didn't happen. Spurs offered 60m and that triggered the release clause.

If another club comes in and outbids us now with 80m then that makes no difference. It'll be up to the player. The spurs offer should be good enough as it meets the release clause.

Atleast thats how it should work although it seems this Forest owner is doing his own thing and would prob find a way to force MGW to join the club paying more money. Contractually that is not how it usually works though.I just think this Forest owner comes from the mafia or something and he's doing everything on his own terms

Why don't you go and bore your mates on the Forest forum?

While he is a Forest player refusing to train is a breach of contract isn’t it?
A contract that Forest have breached in the first instance.

This is not a garden variety "I am mad the club isn't selling me" situation.

Forest are refusing to honor their contract with Gibbs-White. He is well, WELL within his rights to refuse to train, give notice of terminating his contract, and declaring himself a free agent. And/or take legal action to force Forest to honor the terms.

Marinakis has made his position clear. There will be no voluntary deal, and legal compulsion ain't arriving by the end of this transfer window.

We don't have a player willing to upset those facts on the ground, so this saga is over.

Can you maybe just be patient and wait to see how this develops?
There is nothing to develop if Gibbs-White won't take escalatory action.

For now

MGW is choosing not to antagonize the club to get his move for now.

If he was ruthless enough to tell us the clause, he’s ruthless enough to do that if he needs to.

Right now he’s probably trying to protect any bonuses he’s due in his contract and keep Forest sweet. If it looks like the move is off, his agency aren’t a bunch of jokers, they will do what they have to do to earn their % from this move. If he stays, the club and player might never get another chance to make a big move.

I mean, a degree of caution and care is certainly called for in this situation.

Incidentally, Gibbs-White is represented by the same agency as Ben Davies.

Gibbs-White is represented by CAA Stellar, not CAA Base (exactly how connected the two are, I'm not sure)

CAA is the top company with CAA creative and CAA Base as different divisions with slightly different remit. I thought Base was always player agent but if its Stellsr probably little or no different difference.

Levy/Spurs know both well

Why are you making up a ficticious scenario? The 'second' club, i.e. Spurs offer £60m which meets the release clause, and the player, if he's happy to join Spurs, makes the move. We are obviously aware of the clause (through info from the agent or player?) and have made the requisite offer. Maybe Marinakis would like the clause to be secret and have several teams competing and upping the offers but he's going to be disappointed.
