I think the reason why the likes of Ornstein, John Percy and Matt Law are quiet is because no one knows where things are truthfully.
The nature of this dispute is totally outside their expertise, and given the threats of litigation flying around their sources have probably clammed up about it.

We don’t even know they are desperate to keep the player
My best guess as to what happened is that Gibbs-White had expressed a desire to move this summer, the club were exploring it, but they preferred the Elanga deal, and once that was finalized they told Gibbs-White he wouldn't be allowed to move, which then induced the disclosure of the release clause that kicked off this whole imbroglio.

If we assume away the release clause (which I guess is the reality we live in now) they're in okay shape to have him run one more year off his deal.

Could be mate. Could be they need to sell both

If he won’t sign an extension, 2 years left is the sell zone

How does this move forward realistically?

MGW will have to push or marinakis back down?
Nobody knows what is happening so unfortunately that can't be answered.

He did and didn't have a medical, Forest did and didn't give us permission to speak to him initially, we did and didn't activate the release clause, we did and didn't offer the sum in 1 lump sum, Forest did and didn't make a complaint.

The only constant is that MGW wants to join us which of course is a positive.

Anyone believing Marinakis is just going to unilaterally surrender is a moron.

Either MGW takes legal action to enforce the terms of his contract, or somehow the clubs come up with an amount of money above the release clause that's extortionate enough to satisfy the injury to Marinakis' honor but not so high that Levy isn't put off.

Nobody is ever going to pay more than a release clause
Forest's functional declaration here is that the release clause is void. Maybe they would honor it for someone other than Spurs? Hard to know.

But the important thing here is that in the absence of legal compulsion to the contrary, the state of play is that MGW's contract says whatever Marinakis wants it to say. That's where we are.

Why is MGW continuing to train under those terms? No fucking idea. Will he play tomorrow? Will he fly to Portugal? Will people wake up that he's surrendered in this dispute if and when he does?

The main complaint (the one to the League) seems to be we were talking to MGW before being given permission by Forest to.

The secondary complaint (where we have been put on legal notice) is we coerced the agent or MGW to break their contract by informing us of the clause and tried to use that known illegally gained information for commercial gain, and it has subsequently reduced his potential value.

Now the validity of those claims is not known yet, but the case has clearly been put forward.
And right here this thread should stop, because that's all we really know.

Oh, who am I kidding...

Doesn’t matter if they want to declare it void. Nobody is going to pay more than the rc, especially if his contract is only decreasing in time left.

It’s over. They take this 60m or never get the same offer again

It seems he's being a good gent about the situation. Training with the team as normal, not sulking and demanding to be put on transfer. He want the move of course, but if it doesn't go through he'll keep his chin up and carry on. I really respect those kind of players.

Hope this works out in the end. It's a win-win situation for both teams. Player doesn't have his heart in the club anymore so it's better to sell and re-invest the money ASAP. £60m is a really decent price tag and Forest must realise they're not in a position yet where they can keep their best players. We've been in that situation a few years ago.

I mean, if the clause is inoperable, perhaps a bidding war develops.

We might bid more than the clause in the coming days.

That's PROBABLY true. But if they get another great season out of MGW in their first European campaign in decades and then sell him for 45M under duress next summer, that's likely a better outcome for them on net, both in a hard financial sense and in terms of the poor Greek baby's ego.

He is probably continuing, as he is waiting for 100% cast iron legal certainty that Forest are in breach of his contract. For him to refuse to train...etc without that being confirmed would potentially render him in breach first, so he can't risk it.

Yeah I can see the point that a great season and 45m is probably worth the risk for Forest.

But the risk of him having a bad season and 45m is massive for a club in the edge of PSR fines and points deductions

This guy signed 20 players in a year or something. Hes bent as fuck but there’s only so many books you can cook

I think MGW has to legally fightback against Forest. The fact he hasn't either shows professionalism or else guilt of leaking confidential info. We can only guess which one it is.

The Spurs stance seems consistent. The offer is 60m. MGW wants to come but he's not pushing it. Forest are claiming he broke confidentiality so his release clause is null and void. Its down to MGW to force this move now. He can't go on their pre-season tour next week!

I'm still trying to get my head round why so many of our fans believe we're at fault here??

I mean the contract is between Forest and MGW? I fail to see how we could do anything that got us a penalty? I can see MGW or his agent getting one as he's signed the contract but us? We didn't sign any NDA with Forest, we don't have a legally binding contract with Forest do we? You can't get in trouble for enquiring about a player can you?

I mean, there's zero evidence (as in provable stuff) just conjecture and I can't think what evidence there can be that would get US in trouble.

Even if there's an email from us to an agent that says "We're interested in MGW, please tell us the lowest we have to go to get him" then the agent can just tell us no as that's private information.

But still, asking the question isn't wrong is it???

So many articles are reporting our "illegal approach" but not actually saying what that is and so many fans willing to accept that we must have done something wrong.

Cause they're a bunch of wet PTSD riddled blankets who need to get over Willian.

And Moutinho

And Rivaldo

And Martinez

And Leandro

And Dybala

And Diaz

he is waiting for 100% cast iron legal certainty that Forest are in breach of his contract
The only place that certainty can be delivered is a courtroom. Period.

The "Greek Trump" thing is really apt, and we are seeing a classic Trump scenario here. He dictates terms in contravention of all law and reason, and those affected cry foul and wait for someone, anyone, to SURELY hold him to account.

To look to someone else to offer salvation is to surrender.

If MGW really wants to join us, then he needs to grow up and fight back. Enough with "want to leave on good terms" or "not anger fans". This is grown ups field here, act like a grown up, you are not a teenager girl.

BTW, MGW, NF fans already hate you. so move on.

The only thing to come to this mate is that we don’t even know if there really is a dispute

There’s been no confirmation of a legal complaint nor a complaint to the PL.

Some reports of them but nothing confirmed.

If there really was a legal dispute or complaint, at least the PL would have made a statement
