Nobody is going to offer more than the release clause because the clause releases the player

Forest can value the player as high as they like, it’s over.

If they want to breach the contract by denying the release clause that’s up to them but they aren’t getting anything above that clause from now on unless MGW signs a new contract.

If he does then he’s a Forest player for life.
Could there be anything in the contract that invalidates it if the release clause is leaked or if the buying club fails to get permission to speak to the player.
Nah. Lemonade.

I'm a tryin' a' give him up
But it's one a' those nights

How often to you go on ebay and pay more than the buy it now price?

Nobody will give them more than the release clause because nobody has to, someone could haggle at below that price, but there's no reason for anyone to go above it.

Their issue so far doesn't seem to be that the clause is invalid, it's that they feel we've gone about the process in an underhand way and so are holding things up.

They can't even stop us buying him ultimately, but who knows how long a legal process will take for that.
To use your eBay analogy, perhaps the release clause is simply a reserve price... Only offers over xx can be considered.

Personally I think it’s a false flag. They know they have to sell at £60m but not to the first buyer… only there aren’t any other buyers.

So make a big noise. Make other clubs sit up and take notice and pray a better offer comes in, otherwise they take the hit.
In which case it could go all the way to deadline day.
It still is up to the player. He can refuse to be sold.

But by all accounts, MGW has his heart set on us, regardless. So it's pretty irrelevant.

That fat criminal cunt needs dealing with. Severely.

That's an interesting one actually (finally, someone has said something new on this thread for the first time in about 20 pages! 😂 ) - what happens if two clubs bid the release clause amount, but the player only wants club A and the selling club only wants club B? If the player refuses to go to Club B, can the club say "well then you're staying, the clause says we have to accept a bid of £60m and we've done that but you refuse to go, that's on you", or does the player have the choice between ALL offers that meet the releae clause amount? What happens in such a scenario must be written into the release clause details I expect - we'll never have any idea of the answer to that.

The bigger fear presumably is what happens if another club bids £60m and he DOES want to go there? i.e. One of the even bigger boys?

We tried will be rolled out by the usual suspects

I reckon we're now letting the fat Greek cool off whilst also having multiple lawyers pour over the fine print to check and triple check.
It's what literally any prudent CEO would do. Make sure they don't have a point before getting that big old stick out and poking the bear again.
