Like I said nothing has changed this deal is dead and burried. We are all just living on pure copium.

Levy hasn't changed from the man who thought Mourinho and Conte were silver bullets to winning trophies whil insufficently backing them. We will likely make one more signing this window and it probably be for someone who is too young to shave again.

I think it's just because they know any repercussions will take a good while, an possibly beyond the closing of the window.

Ultimately they can't legally stop it, but if they delay for long enough and it goes past 31st August they may hope that we just let it go, and potentially get him to sign a new deal after some time to get his head straight.
The repercussions would be too dire for them to take such a risk by not honoring what's in his contract. Not only will that guarantee he doesn't sign a new one with them, but it will end up with prospective players thinking twice about joining them and even a transfer ban.

How do you trigger a release clause that people aren't supposed to know exists?
This is the real question, and it comes down to the drafting really.

If to trigger the clause you need to offer 60M paid all upfront (or worse, something ridiculous like 60,003,047), no club is going to do that accidentally without knowledge of the clause, and so keeping it secret means it might as well not exist.

Thinking in contract drafting terms (this intersects with what I do for a living when they drag me away from posting here), a sensible way to do it might be to separate the trigger value for disclosing the clause and the terms of actually releasing the player.

Like, ANY bid of 60M means the selling club has to disclose to the buying club that a release clause exists for 60M on XYZ payment terms.

Or more favorably to the player, you could lower that threshold. If a buyer bids 55M, the selling club must disclose to them the release clause of 60M. Etc.

More attention is going to be paid to the nitty gritty specifics of these clauses in the future, I can guarantee you that!

Why the fuck is it that every time I click on this cursed thread, people are asking THE SAME FUCKING QUESTIONS THAT WERE BEING ASKED 130 PAGES AGO.

The most interesting topic of conversation we've had on here in days was yesterday when people started talking about shagging dogs.

PLEASE STOP. GO OUTSIDE. MUM WILL TELL YOU WHEN DINNER IS READY. YOU DON'T NEED TO KEEP ASKING.

Levy’s ‘we tried for X player’ schemes get more elaborate each window
He must be down on his bare knuckles now, by pulling the old let's-tap-up-so-the-transfer-get's-cancelled trick.

The oldest trick in the book.

Fair question, but I feel like the dispute over the release clause should make it pretty clear. Either Forest backs down with regard to the bid that was made last Thursday or they don't, the reporting will specify that.

I can't imagine a scenario in which some nominal sweetener makes the deal happen. If we're held to ransom above the clause it will be obvious.

We're men of honor, I'm sure we can resolve any lack of clarity.

Yeah, I think, in Bill's defense it should be "at release clause price" not necessarily a hard 60M as we don't know what the exact clause was.

Yeah, but has anyone asked what the point of a release clause is if it's a secret?

I agree. And i think its disgusting and should never of happened. I think the person that set the ball rolling on that should be found and appropriately punished.

Oh wait a sec,

Next person to type in here rims dogs.

Well this is awkward, anything on ur mind u wish to share with us or the rspca? Or was youre last post an attempt to blow you're OWN trumpet?

So I tell you, please stop, go outside, mum will tell you when dinner is ready, you don't need to keep asking and ffs stay away from the dog!

Another reason I think we're pushing ahead with this and will get it over the line is our woeful homegrown options.
People suggest changing targets, but who else is there of like kind and quality who is also homegrown?

How do you trigger a release clause that people aren't supposed to know exists? I suppose, logically, the procedure is to make an offer on the off chance. But if you trigger it do you really need to ask permission to talk to the player, because at that point it's game on anyway.
Most transfers dont involve a release clause

With a clause.
You bid for the player if you want to buy the player. The club go to the player and he gets to choose.

With no clause
You bid for the player if you want to buy the player. The club chooses whether to accept
