I mean in fairness how often does something like this happen? People are going back as far as Ziege to Liverpool from Boro and Suarez to Woolwich from Liverpool for "recent" examples, as per usual with our club this has dragged on a number of days beyond what most people expected and I can understand the club wanting to "wait and see" for at least a short time to see if the transfer ends up getting pushed through one avenue or another, whether that be the PL clearing/charging us for tapping up and pushing through/cancelling the transfer, Levy stumping up another £5-7.5m to sweeten Marinakis or the player threatening to sue the club to push the deal through. Until we know how much we are going to spend on MGW or an alternative target, on whom we are spending it and how much we will have to pay them for how long I imagine it might be difficult to assess how much we have left in the budget to address other areas of the pitch, and I suspect many Spurs fans are thinking similar.

There are many angles at play here and it's very unusual to have a bid accepted via a release clause being triggered and not see the photo of the player holding up the shirt a few days later. The scandalous nature of someone with Marinakis' track record accusing usually squeaky-clean operator Levy of illicit transfer practices also adds to the newsworthiness of this one IMO.
