Wrote this shortly before the end of the transfer window. I think we could have gotten Zaha cheaper, but Sissoko brings international experience with him. Even though it seemed like a panic buy, we did well in the end and got the type of player which we needed. All he needs is to buy into the philosophy. The thing is, if we would make a marquee signing this late in the window, one out of Alli, Eriksen or Lamela would have to take place on the bench. And I don't think we should change anything about that. If we were to go out and buy someone like Boufal, he'd have to be on the right fitness level for Poch, accept to also work defensively (which is something most of the luxurious player don't do) and get used to the Premier League.
Zaha is English and PL proven. He might not be as technically gifted as Boufal, but he is much stronger about the physical side of the game. A look at our current squad: Aside Eriksen and maybe Alli, all of our current starters play 'powerful and aggressive' football. A few years ago, Rose and Walker looked like Championship players. Through Pochettino's training regime, both became fitter, stronger and faster. It makes a big difference. Same goes with Kane.
The two signings this summer - Wanyama and Janssen don't seem to be too technically gifted either. But their physical condition is top.
Zaha has alot of pace and combines skill, dribbling with a good amount of strength. He doesnt have to be a starter, bringing him on around the 65 - 70th minute, he can cause trouble.
And just because he doesn't have the best stats at Palace doesn't mean he wouldn't get any for us...
If Poch can make him do this regularly we're sorted. Eats up the ground with the ball at his feet. I'm excited tbh.

Okay, I have nothing against Sissoko. In fact, I saw him play in the Euro 2016 and thought he was a hard worker with not much output; a good crosser with poor accuracy, etc. etc. I am sure he will provide us with some physicality/speed dimension. I mean the lad can run like a bull.
BUT, 30M?!
That is six Dele Alli's!
SIX.
DELE.

Such an irrelevant comparison. If we sold Alli now we'd get more than 30mOkay, I have nothing against Sissoko. Its not like Newcastle were going to fold and not pay us our money, one way or another we would have got our money. So £30m is still £30m even if we didnt pay all of it at onceA few thoughts
1- Sissoko will probably never live up to the media quoted price tag, it is very tempting to judge him harshly for this but he cannot be made the scapegoat if we lose games this season
2- I am perplexed Levy would even pay 30m for a player like Sissoko.I can only think of levy-esque alternatives, ie: We paid 13m + Yedlin and Townsend and there was some complex deal in the background which isn't as bad as we think.
3- I cannot help but be angry with Levy, we brought in Paul Mitchel, why did he resign? . He made some good signings over the last 2 years that helped us compete. The squad is the most important asset at the moment.

Fuck 'em. They live in Newcastle, where the best benefit is paying substantially less for jäger bombs.Reading that thinking "they've not quoted anything I wrote, I mustn't be very good at these divisive comments". Then, as the last comment they posted, they got to the bit where I tore into that newcastle fan...
"Fact is, the Newcastle fans are all acting like an ugly c*** who just got cheated on. Going around spreading insults because you are in denial about the situation. You got relegated because you are a crap team"
I see one of them has commented, quoting this, and said "Hes the one in denial. his club has just bought one of the players from that 'crap' team."
I don't think they realise the difference between a player and a team. That's why they have no identity, imo. The fan's don't really know what the club is about, so it's been lost. You can't tip up in mass thousands each week and expect it to mean something, unless you have a bit of a team identity - we have a style of play, a history of a certain type of player (Hoddle, Gazza, Ginola, Bale etc.).
We've lost key players and kept that identity, whereas Newcastle have a personality crisis every season - can anyone even name of the characteristics of playing them?
Novelty statement from the comments: "I reckon Yedlin will be worth more in 2 years time than Sissoko will be."
:chadliwtf:
For those of you on twitter you can spend a good 5mins going through the replies to Sissoko's message. This has gone done quite well in jordie land. They have all taken it in turns to wish him well, with messages of love, affection & reflection. Sum have been creative with gifs and whatnot. Lol
