Ex-Spurs Player Moussa Sissoko

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

When you look at the raw player that he is, even at the Age of 27 and what his potential level could be under Pochettino - look at the likes of Walker, Rose and Dembele and how well they have developed under Poch. It makes me very much optimistic that we have another player that will fit in very nicely in Poch's squad. Watch this space..

He's a strange one.

Defensively sound in a 1 v 1, yet lacks the concentration and positioning to be a DM.

Has the pace and power to leave many players for dead, yet lacks the killer ball or shot to make it all worth while.

Has the technical ability to nut meg people and pass out of trouble, yet struggles with passes and decision making in the final third.

He's at least a solid 6-7/10 at everything, yet not skilled enough in any area to be put in a specific role. In a match where we will be on the back foot, I can understand £30 mil personally. Those big games often pay for themselves, especially when you're in the champions league. He could possibly be the difference in a quarter final or last 16 game. Put him on the wing or in a midfield 3 and suddenly we become even harder to break down.

I'll never love him, he's just not my type of player, but I can appreciate what he brings. Isn't hard for me to rate him above Bentaleb either, who I thought was an impersonator at best and a fraud at worst (At least in CM).
For all the reasons you've listed, it'll be very interesting to see how Sissoko is playing by, say, Christmas. I can't remember the last time we had a manager this good at coaching players to their potential (as long as they're willing to work hard, of course).

Sissoko has only been here a month (one week of which was an international break anyway) after a summer of not giving a solitary fuck about going back to Newcastle. If anything, I'd actually say I'm pleasantly surprised with how he's come on so far. Definitely better to have him (with the injuries we've had and CL football to navigate) than not.

He may not be worth £30m as a player, but he will have been worth buying for that much if we finish in the top 4 again.
What you described does sound like pre-Poch Dembele, so it'll be interesting to monitor his improvement
This.

In many ways you are describing Ramires, and while he was never an every match player at Chelsea he was someone who could really impact big matches if needed - mostly with just his workrate, pace and energy.

Truly big teams always have players like that - guys you can't build your team around, but guys who can fit in and do a job at a very high level when they are needed. We've never had the squad depth to not have to rely on players like that, but we do now.

He scared the living day lights of City defenders and talent and potential alone, very top of my list.

He is a Steffen Freund that powers forward. He holds up well, tackles, runs with the ball. But he can do only short passes. For a wide man, he can't cross
Please... he is no Steffen Freund!

There's no WAY Sissoko would ever turn up in a signed home Shirt and cap, covered in badges... and stand with the fans in the away end at Old Trafford!

There's no comparison! :freundgoal:

Tottenham Hotspur's Moussa Sissoko has admitted that his summer on the sidelines left him psychologically "drained" but says he has felt welcome since arriving at White Hart Lane.

Sissoko, 27, asked to leave Newcastle United after the club's relegation to the Championship and did not feature in preseason nor their opening league games before joining Spurs for £30 million, minutes before the Aug. 31 transfer deadline.

The France international, who starred at Euro 2016, has since started three Premier League games but was replaced after around 70 minutes against Middlesbrough and Manchester City, admitting at the Riverside Stadiumthat he was still not "100 percent" fit.

"I went on holiday, and everyone knew I wanted to leave Newcastle to go to a bigger club, play in the Champions League and compete for titles," Sissoko told FIFA's official website. "Thank God I signed for Tottenham. There were talks that started way before and everything happened in the last few hours.

"I would've liked for it to be done quicker. I was able to rest a bit still, but psychologically, it drained me a bit. I like to have a preseason with the team because it's easier to settle. Arriving at the end of the window isn't the same, even if I was lucky to be well received and everything went well."

Meanwhile, Sissoko's teammate Erik Lamela has said he is happy at Tottenham as he enters negotiations with the club over a new deal.

Seven Spurs players have committed their long-term futures to the club in the last four weeks and Lamela is in talks about extending his contract, which expires in 2019 after he signed a four year deal in 2013, with an option for a further two years.

Asked if he could return to former club River Plate, Lamela told La Pagina Millonaria: "You always have the desire to go back, but I'm also aware that I'm 24 and I'm fine where I am.

"It's a bit difficult to go back now as I still have many years on my contract at Tottenham and I have my head there. I only think of what is coming at Tottenham.

"Time goes by so fast, it seemed like yesterday I was playing for River. I've been in Europe for several years, I'm trying to enjoy every moment because the career is not very long, and I'm enjoying the English football, which I like a lot."

To be honest look at who was coaching Sissoko at Newcastle is it any wonder he played the way he did having Pardew, McLaren and Benitez (was once a great coach a long time ago) none of them are renowned man managers. I would expect under Pochettino there would be better communication and some actual player development and coaching.

Hardly the "last minute panic buy" we are again manipulated by the press to believe!

The learning curve of Rose has been really unimaginable.

I have never seen any player improve so late on and so dramatically.

Can't see how Sissoko is a good fit for any Poch preferred s11. Seems limited with the ball at his feet and attributes just don't seem to be a good fit for Spurs system. Definitely a fine player for depth purposes but that price tag seems hardly justified at the moment.

I thought he was poor today and really didn't add much - I can see his worth against the likes of Man City, his tracking back in that game was brilliant and he caused them problems with his pace. Today though, just nothing.

Saying that, I think he MAY be of some use against Bournemouth. Though I wouldn't start him. I would play the EXACT same line up that we used against Man City but with Dembele in for him.
