Management New Manager?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Just giving someone time = success is the biggest misnomer out there.

Its all int he fuzzy grey area.

Give the RIGHT manager time = success? Absolutely.
How do you know if you have the right manager? I guess you have to give them time to find out.
What if you arent sure? Perhaps a little more time.
If you are sure they arent good enough - sack them - "Didnt get enough time" they say

Essentially which ever way it goes it seems to pay to give at least a certain amount of time to even know one way or the other

This management situation has turned me bipolar, genuinely excited for either FDB or Poch and reckon whoever it is will be capable of great things (though I am a happy clappy optimist in all things spurs).
FDB was obviously a great player who did it all and now has a winners pedigree despite selling his best players year on year, but Poch has excelled everywhere he has been and somehow seems to combine the spurs way of attacking football with undertones of AVB defensive rigour...

Can someone just tell me who I should want? Otherwise I'll just end up with "grass is greener" thinking despite getting a manager I'm very happy to have... #spursy

I'd be happy with either FDB or Pochettino but I'm leaning towards Pochettino to be honest. I'm just more excited about the prospect of having him as our manager although FDB would also be an excellent choice. It's a very difficult situation so I'll just have to wait and see and hope a decision will be made soon.

what annoys me is the level of ignorance involved from outsiders and ex staff who should know better.

should we wait until we've been relegated or everything we've built up under enic has been lost before it's enough time. have any managers ever come back from a massive loss of confidence from the dressing room? what it's this bollocks all about?

yes, there's such thing as enough time to build a squad, to achieve a style of play. there's also being given "enough time" to cause long term damage.

i firmly believe that both our last managers would be more of the latter than the former

I agree with all except the last sentence.

AVB had a plan and would have gotten there within 3/4 seasons if given the time. Sherwood was learning on his feet, neither the former nor the latter of your points were a guarantee.

as much as I want to believe the same, i didn't think AVB was enough of an experienced loser to evolve us. I've made the comparison before, but he's the kind of guy so used to winning that he would sooner force a shutdown on football manager than accept a 6-0. Saw it in his face then at city, then at Liverpool it was a look of defeat. I think he would have panicked in January and it could have been a case of being in 11 new players rather than 7.

respect your point of view, but I didn't have the optimism to believe it

I was about to write something very incisive about who we should get in as our next manager but it won't make any bloody difference so I'm retiring to bed with a few ciders and a picture of Nigella to entertain myself - much more satisfying ! Goodnight.

So you wanted Sherwood to be given time?

Kyle Walker free role? Townsend, Lennon etc? Rose who he said could be next Ashley Cole? Siggy and Chadli in the middle?

AVB should have been axed
Sherwood should have been axed
Harry should have been axed
Ramos should have been axed
Jol should have been cuddled

The real deal IMO is to make sure Lev has NOTHING to do with the selection. Should be down to Baldini. Unless he put forward Sherwood where we shall...Where is the lost hope thread again?

actually i just wanted avb to be given more time but hey that ship has sailed

The manager coming in has the sixth best squad in the premiership. He needs to turn it into the fourth best squad in the premiership. He will need to do this through coaching and selective pruning / purchases. Which of the managers in the frame have the relevant experience in doing this, turning a good squad, into a great squad? One could also argue that they need experience of the premiership to do that straight away. They also need to be able to cope with the pressure and expectation levels of the most fickle fans in the league.
The more I think about it Benitez is the best fit if he will come, with FDB back up. I am not convinced by Poch, and think it is too early for him.

whoever it is, make the decision and get him in quick. He needs to hit the ground running - this is not the time to be fannying around. In the current circumstances, Benitez wouldn't be a bad shout, although it wouldn't be a long-term solution.

I would actually argue we currently have the fifth best squad in the league, but second only to Manchester United in sheer scale of unbalance. As such, that leap from fifth to at least fourth will consequently be rather tough. So unfortunately the new guy's got his work cut out for him.
