Match Newcastle Away 1.30pm Sunday Sept 1

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What’s the thinking on starting line-up and the 1.30pm k.o?
To start I think same team as Everton unless Solanke is fit in which case he starts with Son left and Odobert right up front. Bentancur to start on bench, Johnson too if Solanke is fit.

If Solanke is fit:

Vicario
Porro - Romero - van de Ven - Udogie
Sarr - Bissouma - Maddison
Odobert - Solanke - Son
I think is what we'll see. Though I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Kulusevski starts in place of Sarr.

Need to be on this from the jump. Hate this fixture over the last few years. They are such a bad match for us stylistically. Can defend very well in a low block, but so so dangerous on the counter with the added capability of dominating the middle through Bruno and Joelinton.

I must admit, I see a defeat. Which isn't the end of the world. Newcastle will beat most teams here. I just don't want to see us cave in like we have done. I want us to really go for it until the end and fight for every ball.

Win would be unreal. Draw is more than acceptable. Just hate it's before an International break.

Looking forward to watching this one, mainly because I'm heading to New York next Saturday to see one of my good mates and we are going to be watching it in a Spurs supporters bar on the Sunday morning.

Hopefully we can win!!

Agree that it’s a terrible match up for us, they have power and guile in all the midfield and attacking positions. The direct running of Isak and Gordon destroyed us last time and the aggression in their midfield easily bullied our soft and sloppy team.

We need a totally transformed performance if we are going to win.

This was the ONLY game (discounting the Chelsea debacle) which we lost last season when all four of our first choice defenders played (and stayed on the pitch).

There's something specific about us as a club and that ground, regardless of the manager or personnel we employ.

Ange was incredibly arrogant to have not even watched the 6-1 from the previous season and this is where the "we just play our game mate" came from when challenged about tactics and tailoring to the opposition.

Playing our A game against this lot is asking for trouble. Gordon in particular ran the space behind Porro all game. We have to be smarter this time. It won't happen though 🤣

I watched us take them apart 4-1 at our place last season and they had their main players starting - Isak, Guimares, Schar, Gordon. We were without Mickey. I think if we start fast and press well we could be out of sight by halftime. Biss key to holding middle of the pitch, as is how well we pin their wide players back and manage to supervise their out-ball to Isak. Mickey pace to cover his runs will be important. We have to take our chances cos anything like the missed opportunities of Leicester game will definitely hurt us a lot.

Luckily, Ange is renowned for his flexibility and creativity, when responding to specific threats.

Agree with the OP, same team as v Everton but with Solanke in if fit, Johnson dropped to the bench.

I expect the worst and hope for the best. If we get spanked I will be all "Ange is gone by Christmas" and if we play well and get a great result I will be "I honestly think we can win the league."

This club really does bring out the mental in me lol
