I’m all aboard the DOF model.

Should have got Conte the CB that he wanted.

It was when we didn’t that he’d probably decided that a new contract wasn’t going to get signed.
This is a very confusing post to me.

Firstly because Conte only really had one target, Bastoni, who HE was personally trying to recruit and who the club was willing to pay for. In the end, Conte couldn't convince Bastoni to come, and that's why he's not here, not because the club didn't get Conte the target he wanted.

Secondly, the DOF model would require the manager to work with club targets that maybe weren't the managers first choice. It's a model I agree with, but I don't think it would have worked here. Conte proved that he wasn't interested in that model. We saw him, a number of times, refuse to play players that were "club" players and not "his" players.

I don't think it's too much to ask that the manager of an English club speaks English adequately but that's just me.
It is and it isn't. I think fans greatly overestimate how important it is to the players, especially considering that most player are bilingual and the majority of them aren't English anyways.

I really don't think it matters much to club operations at all; it's basically entirely down to media management.

I've been thinking all day about the next Shteve "how you shay" McLaren?
He went to Holland, won the league, scored a fuck ton of goals.
Sounds familiar at the moment and we want to risk having a genuine Dutch Version (Slot)
As for Potter, people believed he was the reason for Brightons rise, where it appears they have a lot of good people there that know what they're doing. They seem to get better whenever they lose a so called star.

I doubt Potter will ever reach any kind of height now as a manager. I'm 100% certain he'll fail at Spurs if we got him, which is fine, but the division it will cause in the fan base will be unbearable.
I'm afraid whoever is appointed, there will be a huge schism in the fanbase....

That’s not how it went down in my memory.

It was in this order.

Ali Gold going public about priority for LCB, we like Gvardiol and Bastoni. Bastoni is a big fan of Conte who gave him a start.

Price goes public of Bastoni at 70m.

Ali Gold goes public about Spurs reluctance to pay 70m and his contract is running out so may wait for future opportunities when the price will drop. Also Inter are in financial trouble and need to sell at least one star.

Bastoni agent comes out saying he’s an Inter boy and doesn’t want to leave…

Conte went really sour in the press conferences from then on.

Can't really see us getting any in demand manager when you look at the way we operate. We will have to strike lucky and I have no idea who that guy is .

None of us do mate but I really hope that it isn’t Brenda, especially if he’s turned us down before and his agent allegedly hates Levy

Disregarding the Chav connection I’d go for Potter who I favoured before Nuno and Conte

Could work as he has a point to prove and he win the Swedish Cup!! :tobyarm: :tobyarm:

Our recruiting of players has been shocking though

It’s one thing slagging Levy off for not backing the manager etc but some of the clowns we buy defy belief
I'm not too greatly bothered by our recruiting. I think people overestimate how large of a problem that has been recently.

It's getting rid of them that I take issue with. We're going to recruit plenty of duds, that's just the nature of the business. But we're shit fucking poor at getting rid of them and players that fail to make the grade are allowed to just linger like a bad smell.

Yes, that had to be it. Unable to convince a player who under no circumstances wants to move and unwilling to spend 100 million on an unproven 20-year old while at the same time spending 60 mill on a backup striker = the club is not showing ambition.

I mean, I can't help it if you remember things incorrectly.

Go back and look at the reporting if you want.

Spurs were willing to pay, Conte was trying to convince the player, and he decided to stay.

Gvardiol wasn’t moving.

If we’d paid Bastoni would have.
Bastoni would have, really? I mean, if we shelled out 100 mil and gave him 250K/week, I guess he might have moved. But I can only imagine the meltdown on this forum, if we had done that.

To you the solution is simple: just pay the fee, Levy! Like we have all this cash sitting around burning a hole in our pockets. Completely divorced from reality.

That’s true of course and this has been happening for years but my main point is that at least one of our scouting/recruitment team looked at Sanchez and recommended that we pay over £42 million for him!!

With Ndombelly he looked good on a couple of clips in the CL but warnings about his temperament were clear and well founded yet we paid over £60 million and gave him a ridiculously generous 5 year contract (I think)on £260k a week)

Maybe we were unlucky with Lo No Show who clearly doesn’t want to play for us

We’re now considering giving Dier a new contract ffs

What? No he wasn't. :/

"On 20 November 2019, Mourinho was appointed as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year contract"

"On 19 April 2021, Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after 17 months in charge of the club"

How do you think we could possibly have been top in December after only sacking Poch in November due to us having a terrible start to the season?

How can any fan of the club possibly get this so wrong... :/

Sorry thought the post you replied to was about Nuno, not Mourinho. I see I got it mixed up. My reading skills. But thanks for the vote of confidence in any case.

The general consensus for the following managers is not exactly glowing on this forum:

Potter
Poch
Rodgers
Frank
Tuchel (before joining Bayern)
Enrique

I feel we're becoming a little greedy here. They can't all be bad managers / not right for us. One of them could easily thrive at Spurs. Granted, one of Slot or Kompany would be intriguing, but that's only because they're "new" managers we know less about. All of the above managers have had great spells of management during their careers.

It could be worse. We could get Southgate.

This forum is no judge worthy of the name.
