Championship - Transfer income and expenditures

They still spent 20 Million Euros more than any championship team all because they had some over valued assets which they could sell.

Nathan Collins - Wolves 24.3M Craig Dawson Plays over him
Maxwell Cornet - West Ham 20.3M Played 8 times for a team battling relegation
Dwight McNeil- Everton 17M Team battling Relegation
Pope- 10M Only real loss

Basically they got very lucky how overvalued their players were otherwise they would not be looking at Back to Back Relegations,

The fact is the Championship is at breaking point after years of team overspending and the rise in transfer fees. Every club is struggling look at Sheffield United they are second and are struggling to pay their staff and had to make cut backs so they did not get a points deduction. Burnley have also been under Transfer Embargo because they have not submitted their accounts because of a change of auditor.

Their are massive questions over Burnley and yes Kompany has done a good job but I believe he is still very much untested and may be very over hyped in the long run.
Sorry but that seems a pretty one-sided assessment. McNeil is definitely a loss, I know Everton are far from great but if he is starting games for a club of that stature then I don't think you can say he's not a big loss for a side that has just gone down to the championship. The other two were not exactly unimportant for 'the old Burnley' either. So that's quite a few first choice players lost, and replaced by ultimately cheaper players. It's hardly as though VK's been given an open cheque and bought everyone under the sun like our blue London enemy do...

As for the rest of it, I'm not sure how much of it is an indictment on VC himself, surely more on the club?

But I do of course agree with the obvious key point that you and most people are making - he is very inexperienced. Whether or not his expenditure at Burnley has made this season's achievements easier for him, his inexperience remains factual and must surely be a concern. Personally I'm torn on him as an option - we've recently had 2 guys who have seen it all, 'proven winners' etc, and they've failed, so it feels right to try something different in that respect. Whether VC's inexperience is just a bit too 'different' remains to be seen I guess (if it happens of course - personally I don't think the media or bookies have a clue who we're considering, they're just guessing at a new name every few days to create alleged 'news'...).

Notice how quick you are to make it personal when I’m discussing the issues in a reasonable way.

Are you unable to discuss the issues without trying to divide the fan base or insulting people who disagree with you?
That wasn't a personal insult.

It was constructive criticism.

You went all Btec Albert Camus.

I thought I should pull your pants down.

There is only one man dividing the Spurs fan base brother; and it isn't me.

Get there in your own time.

Thanks for pulling my pants down. Next time do it to someone who shares your interest in these things.

Not sure on Kompany.

How many years has Pep got left? He's bound to be favourite to follow him if he does well.

And yes I know him doing well would mean Spurs doing well but I'm sick of these next manager threads!

At this point I get the sense that Pep has gotten sticky and stubborn. I'd venture that he's leaving when, and (within reason) only when, they've won the CL. He knows, it'll tarnish his rep forever if he doesn't deliver it.

Just realised - have we ever had a manager poached from us to go to a “bigger” job? Not as in, dismissed then wound up somewhere bigger next - but actually bought out from a contract with us?

Worrying that Kompany is destined for the City job isn’t too big a deal to me (I mean, people could say the same about Arteta?). If he came to us, then performed well enough to be viewed as Pep’s successor then surely that means we’ve also succeeded alongside him. And he ideally would’ve done so in such a way that another manager could come in after and build upon it further.

BUT In saying all that - I’m sick of having managers who view the job as beneath them. Def not saying Kompany is the type to think that, but it’s something we need to be careful to avoid.

Kompany will be the youngest manager in the prem next season, he could manage us for a decade and still have more than enough time to fulfill his dream to manage city.

It's a non issue.
