Nope, I aim the posts at the entitled fans who believe we should be winning trophies year on year because of our "financial stature" in the game. Who think the be all and end all of football is winning trophies and forget about the actual enjoyment aspect of things.
We did and people still complained at the time. And many knew that Champions League run papered over all the cracks of the disaster which was the second half of the 18/19 season. We then proceeded to give him a sizeable transfer budget in the summer and he was sacked within 3 months.
I think a DoF and Pochettino would be smart but by all reports, he doesn't seem to want to work under one.
But we're not talking about when he took over. Of course we are in a better position now. We've had Champions League football numerous times and a brand new stadium that gives us huge revenue streams. But as we've seen, nothing is different in terms of the way we conduct our business. But our expectations now are also a lot greater and we're a lot more fickle than we were in 2014.
So we'd still just have Pochettino, a squad full of players that ultimately probably aren't good enough for what he wants, a club that won't get rid of the players it needs to get rid of, specific players that we need not being signed and a fanbase that wants more than we're ultimately capable of.
Pochettino is the cowards choice as an appointment. Levy won't want to be seen as a coward which is why I'd be surprised if he's brought back.
Do these fans exist? Nobody I've seen on here thinks we should win trophies every year, but they do want to have won more than we have in twenty .. which is fair enough.
Fans will always complain, but the majority were happy and excited to watch us play each week. And we were perceived to be a very well ran, stable club who teams were scared to face. Poch got those transfers in 19/20 wrong, so in future ensure a DoF runs that side of things but absolutely make sure he does get players. If he genuinely would refuse to work under one then sure .. move on.
Not sure they're all that much greater. First time Poch took over, expectations were high. The Modric/Bale/VDV period under Redknapp was still fresh in the memory. Right now expectations have hit the point where fans would settle for enjoyable football.
This squad still has plenty he could work with - Bentancur, Bissouma, Richarlison, Udogie, Porro, Romero, Gil, Sarr, Skipp, Kulu & probably some others I've forgotten could all work under Poch. On top of that give him a damn decent budget, we'll soon have a competent team. We looked OK under him first season with Mason, Bentaleb, Chadli, Kaboul etc starting FFS.
Accepting you made a mistake isn't cowardly. Pochettino is the most attractive option available to us, unless Nagelsmann would consider it. He plays the football the fans want and has a connection to the club. He's the obvious choice.
