So has Roberto Martinez. Should he be on the shortlist too?

Awesome stuff. Oh he won an FA Cup? So did Conte. So did Mourinho. So did Redknapp. That worked out well for us.

I don't particularly want Martinez, but even he's less of an absurd gamble than someone with one season and absolutely no PL experience.

As for Conte, Mourinho and Redknapp - we did employ them. And all with some success. Redknapp and Conte both turned us from ropey league teams to CL teams. Mourinho got us to a cup final. So did Redknapp.
So not sure what point you were making there. We shouldn't be taking gambles on total unknown quantities like Slot, Carrick or Kompany.
If we had big bollocks, we'd let them prove themselves at a Brighton, a Wolves etc and then pay the money and take them when they show they're not a flash in the pan.

Would you take De Zerbi? He's proving himself at Brighton.

I think we’re in a position where we need to take gambles on managers who have shown signs of potentially being world class in the future. Going for someone like Rodgers shows no ambition to me.

Mourinho being classed as a success here is.....a take.

I think our last 2 big appointments proves that going after supposedly proven doesnt always work. Its always about the fit. Poch only had about 2.5 seasons at Espanyol and then 16 months at Southampton. Jol had only managed minor clubs in Holand. I think its about finding the right person at the right time preferably someone on the up.

You know what Jol and Poch had that Conte and Mourinho didn't?

They got the club. They knew what the fans wanted and gave it to us. They genuinely felt like they were honoured to fucking be here.

Ten Hag did great in Holland and United hired him, De Zerbi is at least maintaining Brighton’s fortunes, Arteta is sadly doing brilliant at Woolwich. All of them have performed better than Jose did with us.

Experience counts for little compare to talent and above all fit for the club. A club like us in a mess should not be grabbing a manager like Rogers who just made a mess of Leicester. The only reason Poch is in the conversation is because we know he fit the clubs and can work with it, that in itself may not even make him the best option.

If we can’t grab the best manager (probably Naglesmann who is available) then club the need to headhunt and scout the next Naglesmann/Pep/Klopp. That is unlikely to be Rogers.

Nail on head. Redknapp as well, he got it from the off and that 3.5 years was great fun. He was only bought in to get us out of a relegation hole. Its amazing what the right person can do if given a chance. Which is why i'd steer well clear of the likes of Luis Enrique and am having doubts about Naglesmann.

Naglesmann is the perfect manager in term of ability. Works with youth, attacking football, worked at high level, gets the team to play more than the sum of its parts, also tactically flexible. The German Pochettino only more tactically creative.

However if he views the job as a favour then I have my doubts. His work at RB and Hoffenheim was beautiful but if the Bayern experience has changed him for the worst then it’s a no.

Maybe. But he's proving to be too much of a dick head, isn't he? Constantly squaring up to refs, coaches, reporters. Not really what we need.

Why does PL experience matter so much?

It doesn't matter if you're a mid table type of team, it's a gamble worth taking. Sometimes it pays off with a Poch for Southampton, or a De Zerb at Brighton, but for every one of those, there's far, far, far more failures. Coaches who have no idea about local rivalries and the chances a team like West Ham improve 180% when they play us etc. The language is an issue (for some) as well upping family and moving to London.
Not to say we should only have coaches with PL experience. Pep, Klopp, Conte, Mourinho all won titles without prior experience. But they HAD won titles in top leagues. They were all experienced coaches and most as players too.

Yeah, Mourinho is a stretch. But he was better than Santini, Ramos, AVB and Nuno. So there's that.

Ten Hag did great for Ajax for FIVE years. He's been actively coaching for 11 years. He worked at Bayern when Pep was there. Ajax were a few seconds away from beating us in the CL semi final to take them to their fist final in decades.

I'll take your Ten Hag and rebut with De Boer.
Name me the top 10 dutch coaches of all time.
Best I can even think of is LVG, Rijkard, Hiddink, Cruyf, This is not a country that has coaches around the world succeeding. Other than a few years at Spurs, BMJ hasn't exactly been a success anywhere.

If you want to take little risk then you have two choices Naglesmann or Pochettino out of the managers we have been linked with and even then there is no guarantee.

If we end up with Rodgers I am legit not going to watch a single game until he is sacked (and let's face it, it won't take long, a year tops.)

I won't accept anymore bullshit from Levy and ENIC and I feel a lot of supporters are in the same boat.

Rogers, I doubt it even Levy is that stupid
