A very good article about Slot and I think this is the crucial part about why his tactics work

............................

So what are those ideas?

“They’re very attacking, very aggressive, with a lot of pressing,” says Martijn Krabbendam, a journalist for Voetbal International who has covered Slot’s Feyenoord. “High intensity, a lot of energy, and they can only do that if they’re very fit.

“He always wants to play attacking football, he always wants possession, he always wants a good set-up from the goalkeeper to find free space and free players in the midfield. It’s no secret he is crazy about Guardiola — he’s an example.”

Before he became Breda coach, De Graaf spent a week with Slot at Feyenoord, observing how he works. “Every session is with high intensity,” he says. “Every workout, passing drill, or five vs five — everything is with high intention and everything is with an idea. Every player knows exactly what he wants from them. He’s good at making clear why he’s doing certain exercises.

He’s as honest as possible, so the players really like him.”

Slot believes his teams have to be intense because it essentially gives them two ways to win: if the quality of their play is lower than that of their opponents or they are having an off day, they can win by outrunning and outworking whoever they are playing.

There is also a recognition of, and mitigation against, the fitness concerns that come with such an intense style of not just playing, but training. He works closely with his data and fitness teams: when they tell him a player’s numbers are dropping or they are in the ‘red zone’, he will ease off.

Transitions are quick and passing is certain. Slot likes to work with younger players who are keen to learn. “If you have a young group, then, as a trainer, you can take the boys through videos in your desired playing style,” he said a few years ago.

For example, when Tyrell Malacia left last summer for Manchester United, he chose to replace him at left-back with the 20-year-old youth team product Quilindschy Hartman. When he needed a central midfielder, he took 22-year-old Mats Wieffer from Excelsior Rotterdam in the Dutch second tier. Both were subsequently called up to the Dutch national team.
Most of the key players this season are 24 and under — there are only three outfielders in the squad who are older than 25.

There is no way our current squad is built for someone like Slot.

Yeah it does seem the club has moved on from, the defensive minded coaches .. which is nice, pretty clear Paratici favoured them to an extent with both Conte and Nuno being his choices.

I'm not explicitly negative about basically anyone we've been linked to, other than the prospect of Mason being appointed permanently. Even Rodgers, who most of our fans would have a meltdown over, I'd mostly just find an amusing appointment. He's not a terrible coach, just a fucking weirdo.

I am negative about our general outlook though, which impacts how excited I can get over any coach. I think any prospective manager has one hell of a job on his hands.
This.

It's not out of the realm of possibilities for Levy to fluke the managerial appointment again, but there really is so much more at play this summer/year. The odds of him getting everything right by pure luck is extremely low, and my confidence in their actual decision making abilities is at an all time low.

Would be nice to have some stability back, and not change manager every 12-18 months.

Not sure if the wider fanbase can stomach a proper project though.

After the utter shit we have endured for about 4 years in terms of quality of footy I think if we can see we are trying to improve the style we can

If we finish 5th to 7th next season (likely we will if we lose Kane but the football doesn't make me wanna drink bleach, and we can see we are getting somewhere I will be more then happy.

Just whoever the new DOF and manager in needs to be brought in ASAP and the recruitment sales and incoming done fast so they can bed in

No doubt that won't happen though whilst Levy is running it

Nagelsman is still my first choice but I'd be interest to see what Slot could do.

I'd rather Mason over Rogers however but think Ryan needs to find his feet away from the toxicity of the club for a while.

I guess we only have three months until the wait is over and we find out who has made the shortlist!

Fantastic heading for disaster and shitsville again.

Arne Slot sounds like an exciting manager but unfortunately his style of play absolutely does not fit our squad.

A pressing style with a squad filled with youngsters? Who suits that from our squad currently? Romero Porro, Bissouma, Bentancur, Udogie and Richarlison at a push.

4-3-3 when our squad is stacked with wing backs?

it's too much of a change to execute successfully imo.

If Slot is as good as people are saying he won't come to us, he will wait for a better job, one that has better owners.

Doesn’t matter who we get. In fact anyone in this list could be amazing or could be guff. Problems are clearly higher up and our lack of coherent strategy. If Levy and co don’t address this more clubs will follow the Brighton and Brentford models and end up catching/overtaking us. Villa seem to be getting their act together, Fulham punching above their weight, Chelsea will come good eventually. The choice of manager is pretty important but the right DOF and 5 year plan is more so

I actually think that’s what we are going back to doing by the sounds of what’s going on with the recruitment team behind the scenes and the links to the type of football directors that have been mentioned. It worked to an extent under Comolli. If anything, the fact we didn’t continue something that gave us success in the transfer market has been utterly bizarre.

I just think they will have to. Whoever the manager is, unless it starts off terribly or there’s no noticeable style of play by Christmas will be under pressure.

The fact the club can’t get this one wrong is a concern though because knowing us we’ll be paralysed by fear and make a panic appointment. It’s already taking too long (for various reasons) and it won’t take too much longer for panic to set in, especially if a few more managers turn us down.

I'm somehow less worried about the managerial appointment than I am about our summer business. So far we haven't been linked with anyone that would be an out and out disaster.

tedesco23 tedesco23 did raise a very good point though, if Poch ends up going to Chelsea and gets an immediate tune out of them, while we go through some growing pains will create a potentially very toxic environment.
