This is what some of us were saying last season under Ange.

Winning a trophy should come alongside doing well in the league.

Villa have qualified for the CL through the league and won a trophy. That is the sign of a serious team.

What we did last season was a fucking embarassment in the league. Finishing 17th and losing every week and winning the Europa, it's not what a team going places under a manager does.

What Villa have done combining the two is what it's about. Yeah we had a harder final, but yeah respect to Villa and Emery, that's how you do it. Win a trophy and performing in the league. Not one or the other.
Spot on. That United side last season was comfortably their worst since post-Ferguson decline, and even as poor as Freiburg are, I don’t think it would’ve been anywhere near as one-sided against last season’s Spurs or United

That's why we hired Frank: so we can compete on all fronts loooool

Real Madrid have won the EC/CL 16 TIMES, PSG going for two (God willing) in a row.

Funny how that isn't a problem but English clubs winning a few of the lesser European trophies is.

English clubs used to dominate in the 70's and 80's but were banned due to football hooligans, maybe we're actually half-decent at this game.

Not understanding the bleating tonight, weren't that long ago Spanish clubs dominated the CL and EL.

I’d add that Villa were literally in the Championship playoff for promotion the same week we played for the Champions League final in 2019. Our two club’s fortunes could not have been more different heading into the 2020s. Somehow, they’ve zoomed by us, while despite posting top 8 revenues in world football we cannot build a squad to save our lives and very well may be relegated this weekend.

The standards at this club and the sheer bungling of nearly every transfer is mind-blowing. We have really fucked it all up. Not an ounce of competence anywhere to be found at this club.

Oh they should 1000% do that money-wise.

But in terms of entries into the competition, they only let one English team into the Conference League and they keep walking it, what are they supposed to do? Leaving the strongest leagues out would cheapen the competition horribly.
Well money wise is just prize money to teams in the competition so that is also just entry...but take your point

They're a bit hamstrung by the stadium and season ticket prices

Just makes our downfall all the more spectacular with the advantages we have over most of the league
Yep, considering our resources, money spent and wages paid, this has to be one of the worst underperformances in modern football history. You’d struggle to find another club spending this much while flirting with relegation in consecutive seasons.

United are the closest comparison, but even during their post-Ferguson decline they never seriously flirted with relegation.

At some point it can’t always be the refs, the manager, injuries or bad luck. The common denominator is the squad and the culture around the club.

It actually had some decent clubs in there, Celtic, Roma, Porto, Lyon, betis, fenabache but they all did horribly

Plus premier League teams for how shite it is is just superior to all but a handful of European teams right now it seems
After we won it I said the EL will be exclusively won by PL teams going forward. I don't see that changing for a while. One of Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford will win it at a canter.

Never forget those that tried to gaslight the fanbase that winning it made Ange a good manager. Never Forget.
