Where we are now is a consequence of shit management from ENIC, Levy and the board from 2018. I'm not willing to credit them for the good work they did when that was almost a decade ago their most relevant body of work has us starting back-to-back 17th place finishes at best and Championship football at worst. This has been a long time cooking and had we removed Kane and Son (Who were also a product to pre-2018 Spurs) earlier than we did we would have been in relegation battles for most of the 2020s because the recruitment has been that shit in that time.
You can't get away with being as shit at board and chairman level as we have been for the last 8 years. There are no Steve Bruces or Mark Hughes to farm points off, the majority of clubs in the league have been better run than us for years.
Fair play to Villa, I don't think they've been "scraping by financially", I think they've been efficiently maximising the PSR room they've got, they hired a great manager and backed him to the best of their ability. I'd kill to be watching a cohesive team with exciting players finishing in the top 6, playing great footy. That's what we used to be. When's the last time we've been enjoyable to watch? Even with the cup wins and the time we finished top 4 under Conte (massive overachievement with the team he had btw, that was a shocking side outside of Kane and Son) we haven't looked a decent, cohesive team since the first half of the 2018/19 season.
