Adrian is a shocking goalkeeper to rely on when Allison is out and they haven't got anyone as good as Mane to come in when he's out.

It's more the fact that they're so RELIANT on that front 3.
They have a true set 11 and if you take one of those cogs out - they struggle. Even by just taking Allison out, they lose a ball playing goalkeeper who can pull of match winning saves. Every time they play Adrian instead, he seems to make a mistake or they stumble across the line.
Even when they played Lovren once alongside VVD when Matip and Gomez were out, he came in and made a mistake straight away. They're barely without Robertson and TAA beyond the odd cup game and it's a reason why they don't progress far in the domestic cups.
They can sort of get away with switching their central midfielders every now and then between Henderson, Wijnaldum, Keita, Fabinho etc. because the job is simple. You receive the ball, pass it to Firmino or out wide to your full backs to create.
Mane is one of the top tier players who you're afraid of before the ball is even kicked. He installs fear into the opposition. Villa had no reason to fear Jota. They knew they could play the way they could. Salah was on form, got 2 goals and took them very well, but he can't do it on his own - because he usually has Mane in that very fluid front 3.
Without him? That fear was alleviated.
