Yeah, although I guess in the current market he's about as close to a guaranteed upgrade as it's possible to get - young, homegrown, proven in the same league, top level experience with England.

Whilst I agree 105 million for Rice is somewhat excessive, they’re going to build their team around him, and the backing the Woolwich board have given to Arteta is infuriatingly admirable.
It'll be an immediate upgrade on Partey, despite the eye watering price tag.

We coughed up (fairly) big money for Ndombele and when it went tits up I think the board collectively decided they won't ever push the boat out like they did with that transfer so sub 50m is where they feel safest.
Yeh he is really good, not as good on the ball as Partey but a bit better defensively, less injury prone and without potential rape charges coming his way. Means they can dispose of Partey and his problems.

I think you’re probably right here, but it’s such a flawed viewpoint from ENIC’s perspective.

They’ve also gone and beaten Manchester City to him, a team many of the conservative fans amongst us will perpetually claim we nor any other non state/oil backed team should even dream of competing with.
