I tend to agree with all of this, to be clear.These players going there are mercenary fucks, most will be crying within a year or two and looking for a return to Europe.
You can't buy history and tradition, this Saudi league is no long-term threat to the PL or the major clubs in Europe.
But Europe being the sole home of elite football talent globally is not a timeless historical condition of the game, it dates to like the 80's at the earliest. And that talent being centralized into like 12-15 teams and shrinking is an even more unnatural condition.
The game would be better off with a greater disbursement of talent and interest and the PL will survive and thrive under those circumstances.
I'd prefer that disbursement to Brazil and Argentina than Saudi Arabia and China, and that would be more sustainable, but anything beats a grim, inevitable march to a closed shop ESL ruling the world like the American leagues do in their (much less globally popular) sports.
