These players going there are mercenary fucks, most will be crying within a year or two and looking for a return to Europe.

You can't buy history and tradition, this Saudi league is no long-term threat to the PL or the major clubs in Europe.
I tend to agree with all of this, to be clear.

But Europe being the sole home of elite football talent globally is not a timeless historical condition of the game, it dates to like the 80's at the earliest. And that talent being centralized into like 12-15 teams and shrinking is an even more unnatural condition.

The game would be better off with a greater disbursement of talent and interest and the PL will survive and thrive under those circumstances.

I'd prefer that disbursement to Brazil and Argentina than Saudi Arabia and China, and that would be more sustainable, but anything beats a grim, inevitable march to a closed shop ESL ruling the world like the American leagues do in their (much less globally popular) sports.

Oh the ESL will happen, it's pretty much already in place with a number of clubs guaranteed a CL spot and the same clubs competing for the title.

The Saudi League will only hasten the creation of a proper ESL not delay or prevent it.

My only real problem with the Saudi league growing in importance is the knock on effect to the rest of the game. Already talk they want to be involved in the European Champions league despite not being European based clubs, some eye brow raising transfers with established euro sides that have Saudi investment.

No issue with competition, but the pace of the growth of the Saudi league is ridiculous - is any fucker going to watch these games?

is any fucker going to watch these games?
Both domestically and internationally that's the critical question.

Show me some sold out stadiums rocking for these games and I might start to develop a bit of sympathy for this endeavor.

Power, money and talent in football should flow to where the fan passion is.

Al-Nassr and Bournemouth alike should not be holding dominant market power over Benfica or Celtic or Boca Juniors.

Outside a few those clubs are over the moon to take the money, why would they put a clause in a contract?
Because the only way for most of these players was down from there. Most of them were deadwood anyway. I mean look at the scum having to bat away Saudi baits for Gabriel. Now in this situation, you can potentially have a disgruntled player like Mitrovic with Fulham and the whole situation becomes ugly

Thats the same even if he signed a anti Saudi clause. If Mitro had one how does that stop him from being pissed off?

(I doubt it's enforceable as Saudi are under fifa)
