He’s going to be the backbone of their team, so is 100 million really that excessive?

They’ve also gone and beaten Manchester City to him, a team many of the conservative fans amongst us will perpetually claim we nor any other non state/oil backed team should even dream of competing with.
You’ve woken up in a positive frame of mind this morning!

That badly need him if Partey the rapist is off and he can match Partey’s level, he is also a much longer term proposition than Partey. Yeh it’s crazy figures but he is far more worth it than Enzo Fernandez.

I don’t think this is it to be honest last time it was the structure that West Ham hated and if it’s 100m over 5 seasons they will reject. City could match or provide better terms. Rice to me is about £80m as a player, £100m+ would be De Jong but seems this summer he is off limits.

He's above Partey's level already. Way more stable defensive presence, even a better ball carrier already imo.

It's a shit load of cash, but then Rice is a brilliant footballer. Would I be angry if we were signing him for the same fee? No, I'd be pumped .. because we'd be getting a brilliant player.

Don't know much about Timber but meant to be highly rated, looks like they're trying to firm up that defensive spine. Imo the biggest weak spots there are Ben White at RB and Gabriel at LCB but doubt they try to replace the latter.

To be fair, this isn't the first time City have walked away from a deal that's become too expensive for their appetite (see Sanchez, Cucurella). Their pull and financial clout is generally something we can't compete with.

Referring to Partey’s passing, he was critical to how they operate with his elite level passing from deep quickly into forwards, that is the part of Rice’s game that needs to improve a lot.

The biggest adavantage Rice has over Partey is consistency. First half of the season Partey might have been the best DM in the league even above Rodri, last 1/3 of the season he fell off a cliff.

Rice is a very good passer imo. His only issue is in tight spaces, sometimes he isn't press resistant enough at all.

But he can pick a pass out. On the ball he needs to work on more creativity with said passing, distributing it more quickly & receiving it in tight areas. But the actual ability to pass a football well is all there.

Yeh he is really good, not as good on the ball as Partey but a bit better defensively, less injury prone and without potential rape charges coming his way. Means they can dispose of Partey and his problems.
He's more of a box to box now and is better than last seasons Partey on the ball. Can't underestimate how shit Partey was for most of last season... He may have something on his mind

he’s their best player obviously. But he doesn’t make them that much better. They were fighting relegation anyway.

They've just experienced their best 3 year run since 1980... Arguably even longer. He's been a talisman for them in that time.

He's also by far the best DM England have and as he continues to improve; England will miss him more and more during any potential absence.

I just don’t see anything special about Declan Rice. He’s good player. Doesn’t make fucking difference at West Ham or England.

He was their best player in both the ECL & EL runs, and has been player of the year 3 of the last 4 seasons incl. two very high finishes for them. Him being in the team during one bad league campaign isn't his fault, he's a single player.

Rice is class. Makes a huge difference for England too, big part of why we've got one of the best defensive records of any NT. When he came off vs Italy in the Euros final, Sirigu said after he couldn't believe it as he thought he was our best player.

He's overpriced, but brilliant. 2nd name on the England teamsheet.
