Yeah, which is a weird flex.

It doesn't sound like Liverpool are hugely convinced by Ekitike, to be honest. Which does sort of make sense because the kid was £14m a year ago and he's not proven. They had the chance to go for it over the past few weeks but have dragged their feet, I actually think they're more worried about us getting him, than actually wanting him themselves.

So, say they buy their (at best) 2nd choice option, that takes them out of the running for Isak next summer. Ekitike's release clause is £86m, If they want him, that's likely what it's going to cost them. They've already spent £185m this summer, Ekitike would take them to, at least, £270m. That's a huge outlay and one I'm not sure they can swallow and keep spending next summer as well.

If Liverpool sign Ekitike they're gonna have a ridiculous 11 next season for chuffs sake.

Alisson

Frimpong
Van Dijk
Konate (Guehi?)
Kerkez

Gravenberch
Szoboszlai
Mac Allister

Salah
Wirtz
Ekitike

Can't see them not retaining the title.

Having spent 125m quid on Wirtz they're not gonna shove him out of position as a make-shift winger!

He wouldn't be a winger. He can play off the left, same as he did for Bayer Leverkusen. They're not dropping Szoboszlai, he's absolutely vital to the way they press as a team.

Cole Palmer played off the right against PSG but nobody in the right mind would call him a winger.

They are now heavily linked with Rodrigo with Dias probably out.

Alisson
Fringpong Van Dijk Guehi Kerkez
Gravenberch MacAllister
Wirtz (10 role)
Salah Ekitke Rodrigo

I think this will probably be there main 11.

Long as it stops the gooners winning the league I am ok, we ain’t winning it.

Looks like Isak is staying then. Ekitike is a fantastic player though very similar to Isak, brilliantly hold up play perfect for the likes of Salah and Writz to play off. I would love us to have got him.

If we have backed away from this deal, Liverpool now find themselves in a tricky position—either they commit to an expensive transfer that wasn’t their number one target, or they walk away too. And if they do pull out of the Ekitike move, it doesn’t move the needle on their chances with Isak this summer, bar having more available funds. Our stance is clear and it's consistent; he's not for sale.

Hugo might turn out to be better than Núñez, but let’s be real: he’s not the proven, finished product that Isak is. So if they do sign him there's no guarantee he's the striker they're after. We were very much interested in Ekitike as an eventual replacement for Isak, he wasn't identified as someone to lead the line from the start.

From our side, we’ve held firm. We didn’t cave under pressure to lose our best player, nor did we let ourselves get cornered into paying more than we think Ekitike is worth (fee or salary). We still have the chance to bring in Scalvini and Trafford, plus a more affordable forward—not quite at Ekitike’s reputed level, but still one for the future.

As I’ve said before: players like Ekitike are out there. Players like Isak aren’t.

I just don't see them dropping Szoboszlai. He's vital to the way they press and is the leader in that. Plus they're win ratio is considerably better when he's in the team then when he's not.

I don't think they'll have any interest in Rodrygo unless Luis Diaz is sold.

Ekitike was brilliant in the first half of the first leg and then did the square root of fuck all the rest of the tie against us. He’s clearly a very good player with lots of potential but I’m not super fussed.

Yeah, Liverpool are really struggling.
