I remember when Danny Murphy first started (at World Cup) he was doing halftime analysis, which was fucking excellent, by the time he got the MOTD gig he was garbage. I think Jenas was also really good early doors, he was far more understanding of the football played by Pep, Klopp and Poch, knew what they were doing. There is a now famous spat between Shearer and him where Shearer just says there’s only one stat that matters and that the score (fairly sure it was a Spurs semi final or final where we were the better team but losing). I think the penny dropped then for Jenas that it pays to just dumb down and talk to the thickest in the room.

It’s always good to be happy; but he’s become a parody IMO . And his comments are inane ( to put it mildly) . I trust his agent is well connected and on 60% plus . His shtick has been done before.

Depends what you want from a pundit. In terms of actual footballing analysis, he’s completely worthless. I can’t recall a single point of interest he’s ever made regarding tactics or formations etc.
But as a comedic foil, he’s amusing in small doses. I think he has that niche carved out for himself and he sticks to it.

I can’t have this bloke. In the mid 80’s I had the misfortune of working for Ashton Dean. It was MFI’s attempt to move into the high end furniture market . They only had one store in Colindale and it was a total clusterfuck , I was there about 6 weeks and got the hell out . It went tits up within a year but it was a depressing 6 weeks the time I was there . I realise it’s illogical to hold it against him but whenever I see his name I have flashbacks to wearing a cheap black and white dogtooth jacket with an even cheaper yellow polyester tie .
