Player Pape Sarr

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What’s gone off here, then?

The outstanding midfielder since Frank joined and now can’t get more than 5mins since the first international break. 🤷‍♂️

Weird.
He isn't fit theres no mystery. But for me (I know his detractors will bleat).....We are always better with him. Fit Sarr has to be found a position the coaches need to work out the balance because he's one of three we can't do without. And for the record he did NOT play all the minutes for Senegal either. So clearly being protected.

It's fucking Bizarre. Frank wanted to shoehorn him into playing 10 and he made a great fist of it but now we've signed Xavi, for some reason unbeknownst to man, Frank is determined to play Bentancur with Palinha even though Sarr was our most in-form CM of the year.

Every coach seems to have blind spots, Frank's is one of the weirder ones because Sarr's form in his system was making him look like a genius.

Fit enough to play a full 90 mins on international break and in the arctic circle - but not the games around them?

Very simple question to counter that.

Did the player in this "arctic circle match" looked ANYTHING like the Sarr we saw in the start of the season?

To me he did not. Not even close.

I don't know what exactly has been happening with him in last month or 2, but it is quite darn clear that there is some issue with him. I hope he gets well soon and finds his form because we really need the start-of-season-Sarr back!

Very strange. I think Frank is trying to overcompensate to fit Simons into midfield that he doesn't trust Sarr or Bergval in the midfield with Simons so he's persisting with the double pivot of Bentancur and Palhinha.

The good thing is we have so many matches coming up that Frank will have no choice but to rotate around his midfield so hopefully Sarr and Bergvall can perform when they get their chances. To my eye our midfield is crying out for one of them to be starting to link it all together. Bentancur and Palhinha are sitting midfielders and simons is alost playing as a second striker so there is no link up at all between the 3 of them in midfield. Sarr and Bergvall are box to box players who can help in the build up but also join in on attacks. Personally I think one of them should be on the pitch at all times.

Don’t think he’s been any better than anyone else. Really inconsistent in what he does within a game let alone game to game. He’s a runner really that often gets caught out positionally.
The perception of Sarr is greater than the reality and this comes up when he has stints out of the team.

People go one like he's the next Viera or like he's a constant 8/10 performer. He's been just as inconsistent as the rest of them and that's why he's not in the team. Remember his no show in Bodo? Gray outshone him in a 15 min cameo.

Tad overrated by this fanbase.

Really poor agsinst Bournemouth as well. Probably our worst performance of the season. I don’t mind Sarr as a player, he covers ground well but he’s not a sure thing at all. His touch and technique get found out under pressure.

It’s just hope to think bringing him in for Bentancur is going to make us a better team. He might bring a bit more energy, but it’ll be a more frantic energy. Bergvall should be the player coming in if there is a change. bit rough around the edges but the better player coupled with really good energy and drive.

Its funny this there is clearly a separation in the fan base between those who see his talent and those who don't. Everyone stunk against Bournemouth because tactically the coach got found out. But the facts dont support the idea the team does better with Bentancur or Bergvall over Sarr someone checked and its a fact that he has been prominent in a far larger proportion of our wins against tough opponents than anyone bar Maddison. So clearly there is something here. For me the balance of our team is off and because we are so one paced up front we 100% can not do without Sarr's athleticism from deeper. I think Bentancur's the real problem.

Fucksake he was CONSISTENTLY good in the start of the season. Game after game after game.

Then got injured.

OBVIOUSLY was not fit and sharp against Bodo, coach noticed it and hasn't started him since.

But we need that Sarr back that played in first games of the season.

Think there are people who probably underrate him and those that overrate him more than people seeing his talent or not. those stats don’t sound that fire proof, just going by the eye test, ive seen us play some poor football with and without Sarr playing. If youre blaming tactics for Sarr’s performance against Bournemouth/Bodo maybe Bentancur/Bergvall deserves some leeway at times. Don’t think Bentancur or any one player can be the real problem. It’s probably a few issues. looks like he’s being asked to play way deeper than he’s used too as well.

I do like his energy, stamina and attitude and am up for seeing Sarr come in and make the difference some people think he’s going too. Personally not convinced but I hope I’m wrong.

I don't think we have the right balance of midfielders in the squad. Each have very obvious weaknesses. For Sarr his are technical limitations.

However, for me the most important thing more broadly from a team perspective is chance creation to score goals. Aside from give to Kudus and launch it into the box we are very limited for chance creation. We've been reliant on hoping Xavi can hit the ground running but it's not happening just yet.

For a couple of seasons now I've acutely been aware of how many good quality chances we create with Sarr leading a press or intercepting the ball through high turnovers. For me this is a big enough reason to have him start to allow us more opportunities to score.

We won the EL because of his play in the lead up to the goal, I'm not just talking about the cross but the interception and carrying it up field.

We saw him lead a turnover against City earlier this season leading to a goal. There's countless other examples.

He has technical weaknesses but through his physicality and reading of the game he can help the team in other ways, especially with high turnovers.

Amazing the difference his running made when he came on. Nearly had an assist to Rochy the minute before the goal.

Needs to start over one of the fridges.

Looking at the players' reactions to his goal, it def looked like something happened behind the scenes.
