This holier than thou shit is obnoxious. Cissé can gamble and still be against usury on religious grounds. Religion is, wait for it, fucking complicated, and I know plenty of Muslims who consider themselves devout who still, say, gamble. Or eat pork. Or drink. Or all three. Just as I know Catholics who are vehemently against abortion but use condoms. Or masturbate to porn.

It's a rank oversimplification that takes an obnoxious view of belief as being nothing more than a set of tickboxes for knuckle-dragging morons to fill out, lest they be labeled hypocrites.

Furthermore, recall why usury is banned from Islam: it's a way in which wealth moves from the poor to the rich (according to Muhammad's economics). Cissé's blowing his wages is a horse of a different colour.

Find the article where Cissé is proven not to tithe. Then crow.

Ade next to Cisse would actually be a pretty formidable pairing since they compliment each other well from a strength perspective

But a 442 isn't happening on AVB 's watch

I live in a country where it's against the law to enter, wearing a kandura (thobe), an establishment that serves alcohol yet see locals dressed in said clothing with a Methuselah of Belvedere and a couple of prostitutes on either side.

Nothing complicated about what's going on.

That's a fair point. But I'll bet you the Casino is still richer than him. Regardless, if his moral beliefs are "complicated" in that they have changed since he wore other shirts with loan companies - or if his morals only come in at a certain percentage - it's probably best that he doesn't sign contracts his personal code can't fulfil.

E.g. if Bale said he wanted to leave because advertising computer technology was against his religion, I'd be a bit sceptical as to why he never mentioned that before-hand. If it's because his ethical values just suddenly changed on the issue, what is to guarantee that they don't change again?

If he's THAT Muslim, he surely ain't gonna sign for us now, is he?
What with our 'pre-conceived media obsessed' Jewish links and all...

I think it's entirely possible that he's being opportunistic. But I also think it's entirely possible that his own personal beliefs have certain limits and change over time. That's why I don't like this kind of gotcha! talk of "hypocrisy". We simply don't know. And like someone wrote earlier in the thread, being against wonga, whether for religious reasons or not, still deserves some credit. Even if he's entirely self-serving, his threats have encouraged a conversation, etc., about what the PL is doing giving these predators a pulpit.

Religion is bollocks IMO, but just looking at it from a moral standpoint I agree with @ Éperons Éperons - nothing hypocritical about a rich guy who likes to gamble being opposed to an extortionate payday loans company.

SSN BREAKING NEWS (really... is it?)
Papiss Cisse WILL wear a Newcastle shirt branded with club's pay-day loan sponsor 'Wonga'....

Meh, can't have been THAT much of a Muslim then eh?
It seems money speaks louder than ANY religion!! Just ask the Catholic Church!!!!!

He wore a shirt that had the name of a bank on. Banks lend money.

BTW that casino is in is the one I played Blackjack with Andy Carroll in a few years ago
