Player Pedro Porro

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Has he ever played as a winger in his career? I think it would suit him fine.

Good crosser -Solanke would especially love this-, can get by his man once in a while, can press high up the pitch to prevent building up from the back, would track back. I can't see what he's lacking honestly, especially considering how little some of our other wingers provide most of the time.

With all those injuries, how congested the schedule is getting, and the way Spence plays, I see value in going slightly out of the box with stuff like this.

More as a right sided midfielder in a 4-2-3-1

Agree- think Porro would be a hit at RW.
Not sure we have enough defensive cover right now for Ange to try it, though.

I feel for Pedro, he's obviously worn out. I noticed that he was holding the back of his leg very early on against the scousers.
He needs to be rested, otherwise he's going to get a serious injury and will be out for ages.

Absolute liability in defence.. think we've been fortunate that more teams haven't taken advantage of his piss poor defensive play/positioning..BUT he's decent going forward.. though tbh i'de say from what I've seen recently Spence would give more defensively AND wouldn't be far short on he's input going forward... Oh I see where people are coming from with Spence at the bac and porro further up on the wing But given our managers 'stance' on formations ect ect it ain't gonna happen.

He's tired, so any evaluation of his recent form must take this into account. Let's get that one out of the way.

Still, in general, I feel that initial question marks about his defensive capabilities that first arose when he arrived haven't been erased. Of course, a mitigating factor is what the current manager allows, in fact demands, his fullbacks to do in possession. They are instructed to roam freely inside the opposition's half, while taking big risks with their movement that are unusual for fullbacks to take. As a result, as soon as we turn the ball over, they're caught vastly out of position and are forced to cover significant ground to get back in position.

The way we play exacerbates Porro's defensive woes, just like it does Udogie's. Regardless, it's fair to ask if Porro is even a fullback. I still see him as more of a wingback or even a RM.

I think he’s the main reason we are so bad defensively. He’s just terrible defender. Out of 10 times, opposition winger will past him at 8 times. They create so many chances on Porro’s side it’s laughable now.

I mean, we are not good defending as a team, but when you have such a liability as a right back, it comes across even worse.

I don’t blame Porro one bit. He’s a good footballer being put into a position that doesn’t play to his strengths.

He’s actually improved defensively but he is and always will be a weak link in a back 4.
