consistently failed against good players?
This season he had 2 good games vs Manchester City, a good game vs Leicester and bad against United, Woolwich where the whole team was absolutely horrendous when Nuno basically decided not to even have a midfield and Chelski.
Last season he was good against United, Woolwich and Chavski and City from the top of my head.
its a total myth when people say he doesn't have good games against good players/opposition but people like yourself like to rewrite history. I suggest you have a look at the match threads of these games to get a true reflection of what people made of his performances and not continuously try and downplay his contribution.
Anyone rating him last year was an idiot and doing it because he ran around a lot and yelled at other players, usually after he fucked up.
He wasn't good last year and had the same issues of being complete shit with the ball at his feet, especially when under pressure.
There is a reason no quality team has a player even remotely to close as shit as he is in their MF.

I don’t understand why he is always getting so much flak, he’s assisting goals regularly and had a great game last night. He is a key member of our squad and a positive leadership influence in the dressing room.
Give the man more respect! Maybe we end up with Skipp and Bentancur as the starting two but Hojberg is very much in the mix and has been performing well of late.

He doesn't get in a top 4 squad but he's more than capable of being a solid player every other PL squad, and would be a starter on most
He isn't getting so much flak he is getting discussed properly for his massive limitations. He has 2 assists this year and 4 last year that is hardly assisting goals regularly.
He did not have a great game last night. Against a poor Everton team he still had to pass backwards or give the ball away anytime under pressure. He didn't stick out as much as he normally does because Bentancur carried him and Everton gave up in the 2nd half but he was far from good yesterday let alone great.
He gets way more respect than he deserves. He has not been performing well lately at all.
With the way he blames teammates for his fuck ups, he should be open to criticism for his own shit play.

I don’t know what game you were watching last night but it wasn’t Spurs Everton, he played with a lot of intensity, relative composure - he did have a couple of lapses, and aggressiveness last night and was a strong presence next to the silkier, more forward thinking Bentancur - players have to pass the ball back sometimes it’s necessary to re order the state of play in order to then allow the team to advance further with a different dimension on the field. I think you expect too much of a player in Pierre’s role, not every player can be a De Bruyne, there are a variety of pieces to an effective starting 11 puzzle.
He is a vital part of our current squad both on and off the field, there is no denying that! Yes a lot of people have been getting on PEH back in the stadium and online on podcasts etc and I think it is unwarranted. So what if he shouts and beats his chest? I’d rather see that kind of passion on the field than a meek wallflower.

you can't argue with specifics and facts. I've listed the games he has played well so your comments about him never performing against big teams is (unsurprisingly) innacurate.
My opinion regarding Hojbjerg is that we can definitely upgrade in his position in the summer but he is a very underrated squad player to have who offers quite a lot. Defensively he is extremely solid, he offers very good leadership in a squad devoid of any and he is underrated in an attacking sense as well in terms of progressive forward passes .
He’s not solid defensively imo - agree with your other points.
