News Police to visit 1,000 homes in crackdown on illegal Premier League streams and "fire sticks"

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Police will visit 1,000 homes this week as part of a massive crackdown on illegal television streaming.

They have identified customers from a huge database in a major ongoing criminal investigation and will knock on the doors of people to warn they could also face prosecution. This latest clampdown against 1,000 individuals comes after raids by West Mercia Police against a UK-based illegal streaming service offering entertainment and sports via modified boxes, so-called “ fire sticks” and subscriptions.

...but try to get them to take any notice at all when your car's been broken into, or you've been mugged.

The police need to take a long, hard look at their priorities. Crime against the individual is slightly more important than people ripping off multi billion dollar companies for a couple of quid.

Exactly - it's a bit like how this tweet from 'barstool football' described it.

Give me the facility to watch all of the UK football legally in the country and I might not hypothetically engage in searches for other means to watch my team when it's not on telly.

I don't even think it should be illegal to use a search engine to enable one to view a perfectly legal activity such as sport on online devices.

Bearing in mind it's fairly easy to watch an unlicensed boxing match/fight on Youtube.

I don’t do it. More so because I don’t want to end up with a virus on my devices :contelol:

None of this would be an issue though, if people had the ability to subscribe to a service where you can watch every game. I’m sure people would happily pay for it

I wonder how many people stream matches every week? 2million? 4million? 8million??

In which case 1000 is not a “massive” number.

They would be better off doing tik tok dances in front of their squad cars.

Lol. All nonsense. I assume this is some sort of streaming service that can be accessed by an app on the fire stick. It is not even clear if it is "illegal".

"Knocking on doors". Yes, because they can't do fuck all else. Why are they wasting resources on this?

Every game should already be available for streaming for a modest fee.

If they want to stop streaming they need to give fans a legitimate way to access all games.

A similar example is how film/tv piracy decreased when services like Netflix first came out.

Give people a legitimate way to access the content they want and in most cases they'll take it rather than resorting to piracy.
