Jesus people this Cups vs Champions league place priority debate is becoming the 2017 version of the AVB vs Sherwood debate

Yes a cup would be nice to see but Woolwich fans haven't mentioned their 3 FA cup wins once when they go on about how badly their club is being run

Just shut up and let Poch get on with it! Enjoy what we are, now go outside and enjoy the freezing cold weather

I've seen nobody make that argument. Seems clear to me that what he's saying is that treating a competition as being irrelevant before you've managed to win it seems a bit arrogant, not that the league cup should be a priority. Apologies if I have missed the posts where the latter is posited.

Personally, I really dislike this repeated falsehood that people who still value the cups somehow see them as more desirable than the bigger competitions.
That exact argument is being presented because it is apparently "easier to win" it, which means this is why we must focus on it/them. To "focus" on it means to bin off the others does it not?

I'd sacrifice one for the other for sure.

Here's a thinker. Would you rather win the Carabao Cup or get to the CL Final?
Do we have a chance of winning the CL final in your conundrum? If the choice was getting to CL final & losing, or winning the Carabou cup, it’s not such an easy choice for me being honest. If it meant we requalified for CL (as runner up) I’d probably take that, but missing out on a trophy to lose in the final of another is trickier. To balance that, getting to the CL final would be one mighty joyous rollercoaster to be on.
That’s a fucking stinker of a question!

Yes it is.

The way I see it is reaching the final of the CL is a much bigger achievement than winning a cup that is mostly played by squad players. Everyone has a different idea of success, but I feel one shows we had a good up run and the other shows we're a legitimate force to be reckoned with (albeit earned through a good cup run.)

Let's pose Spursdems question in a different light. What would everyone choose.

A. Win the league or FA cup and finish 6th in the league

B. Get knocked out of both cups and finish 2nd in the league.

A.

We've done B already.

So you'd go back to playing Ropey league on Thursday nights? The way I see it is that we are progressing massively and being in the top 4 is huge for us, but winning either domestic cup just doesn't feel like anything special to me. Sure we get a parade, but do I care about that? Not really.

Edit: we've also done A already as well. And I wouldn't swap our season finishing under Ramos for last season ever.

Second Edit: we actually finished 11th. But we sure showed everyone how good we were in the cup....

I should have clarified. I'd like to win the F.A. Cup. I'd take Europa for a season for an F.A. Cup.

Probably none. But that would be offset by the happiness of winning the F.A. Cup.

I disagree whole heartedly. I wouldn't be surprised if we finished 6th and won the Europa league that we could see a wantaway Jan, Toby, Eriksen and Lloris. These players have been kept content by our constant progression, and winning a domestic cup and finishing massively off the mark in the league is a definite step in the wrong direction for us. Woolwich won an FA cup, it didn't convince Sanchez or Ozil to sign new deals with them, so why would our top players view it any differently?

You could say the same thing for scenario B. Another nearly season could see them at the end of their tether. Who knows.

Trophy wise - all our rivals have been superior to us in the last 10 years - how is that even an argument?
That wasn't what you said.

Here, I'll show you what you said...

We cannot compete with our rivals who pay triple our salaries

You even name dropped Chelsea and United. One side we've finished above for the past 2 seasons and the other 1 out of the past 2. We've even finished above Manchester City who fall in the same category.

So your proclamation that we can't compete with our rivals is provably false.

I think what these 10 pages have shown, is that everyone has differing expectations & dreams from the same lifestyle choice- that choice being to support THFC. Some want to see a cabinet with another trophy in it. Some would prefer to keep some space in the hope of bigger trophies.

I’m coming to the conclusion that there’s no point in cunt offs over differing expectations.

I’ve been all :townhmm: reading through each & every point of view expressed because there are merits in almost all of them.

We all want what’s best for THFC & we have a manager we can wholeheartedly trust to act in what he believes to be those best interests.

From now on, I’m just going to enjoy the ride, wherever it takes us, knowing that our manager is doing his best to bring glory to the club. He won’t want to spend his career being the nearly man of elite management. It’s also very tiring trying to work out all the possible permutations & my little brain nearly blew a fuse when faced with the conundrum set by SchmoodSpur SchmoodSpur

I’m loving being a spurs fan more than at any time before. This is the second most valuable squad in the world, assembled for roughly the price of Ozil, ALexis, Xhaka & Lacazette. It would be nice to cap that off with some silverware, but it’s a joyous ride right now because we are doing it the right way.
