Its a tangent but agreed. Earlier lockdowns would have meant less burden on NHS, fewer sick people in hospitals means better care, fewer deaths. A little bit of extra time for vaccinations, etc etc. Boris leaving things open even when things were so bad in italy did cause extra deaths.The scientists told the Tories to lock down earlier (like most of Europe) and to shut airports. The tories ignored them.

Not expressly, but they tend to be correlated. People who are welcoming and outgoing towards outsiders are generally more open to outside ideas which leads to a more progressive outlook.
