Match QPR Away 20 July 2024 3pm

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Decent run around for everyone and nice to see the youngsters looking and feeling part of the First Team. Some good passages of play in the first half but not a great spectacle overall - which is pretty standard for a friendly. Perhaps a bit concerning how much they had the ball in and around our box in the second half.

I like Loftus Road as a ground. Compact and you’re close to the players. No real bother in the stands apart from one lairy bloke getting annoyed at how many Spurs fans were in the away end. But I was close to falling asleep in the second half. I’ll probably avoid PSFs in future unless it’s somewhere fun like Celtic.

Hopefully it was just a case of pre season drop off, where fitness levels are still to improve, especially as that shit was going on last season.

Was funny that one guy getting chucked out near the end of the game

Good game overall.

Hopefully Dragusin and Van de Ven both travel on the tour so we can see Gray play in midfield.

Spence done well again. Phillips definitely need a loan. QPR probably wouldn't be a bad loan for him actually.

Devine probably the best player for us in that half. Kulusevski probably our best player overall. Should have had three assists.

Stop trying to make Solomon happen, please Ange. Get rid. Moore needs to play on the left wing, Solomon is simply ruining that path. Especially as Werner and Son will likely be there this season.

Happy for Dane. Hopefully Bergvall is okay.
Why does Philips need a loan

Looks ready:

Moore, Devine, Bergvall, Gray, Spence, Phillips, Gunter

Doesn't look ready:

Donley, Abbott, Hall, Lankshear, Veliz
Donley is playing LB so that is harsh on him. Lankshear needs more minutes that’s 2 games his come on in 2nd half and then been subbed. Scored one goal and did ok. Why do people right off players so easyily?

I think Romero, Van de Ven, Dragusin and Davies are probably all ahead of him when fit

Hes 19, he needs to play competitive men's football every week. He isn't getting that here
Yes we have 3 quality CBs. Davies needs to go ffs. How many years has he been around and every season it’s like he needs to go. It’s time to move on and give the younger players a go. Philips is far more physical than Davies for the CB role.

Painfully average at passing out from the back too. So ideally a loan to a club that plays possession football.

Wouldn't be against sending him to the Eredivisie or similar.

He’s a good player. Injury issues a bit of a thing though.

I’d think he’d be better for us than Lo Celso ever was.

Before anyone bloody says so again though, of course it doesn’t remove the need to sign a quality winger, probably a striker too and a left back competition for U-doggie-dog
Do we really need him though for £50M? Does he improve us that much. I’d rather either keep Gio or sell him abd use that money to get a eze, Neto, top striker, etc. we have enough midfielders. For the eye test is key and Lucas B, Alfie, gray all look great on the ball. I’d rather we put our faith in them than get the Villa kid who’s always injured and is no better really than those listed above.

I’d prefer Ramsay to GLC. I think he’s a much better player. We have no use for GLC.

But let me be clear. I’m just talking about this deal on its own.

Have already said it should not be at the expense of signing a quality winger / striker etc…it should be in addition to.

Austin (Gunter 46), Pedro Porro (Spence 46), Gray (Royal 46), Skipp (Phillips 46), Donley (Abbott 46), Sarr (Maddison 46), Bissouma (Devine 46), Bergvall (Kulusevski 25 (Hall 66 (Scarlett 85))), Johnson (Moore 46), Son (c) (Lankshear 46 (Veliz 66)), Werner (Solomon 46).
Substitutes (not used): Whiteman, Robson.

That's a squad with a lot of youngsters in it.

I know QPR play in Championship, so a level below where we want our players to be comfortable playing against, but its still a level above (or sometimes same level) where a number of youngsters have played.

So its really good to see Austin, Gunter, Gray, Phillips, Donley, Abbott, Devine, Bergvall, Hall, Scarlett, Moore, Lankshear, and Veliz (more than one team in total) all having a go and not being disgraced in any way - and indeed most can be said to have looked very comfortable at that level, even when played totally out of position such as Donley.

Johnson haters pretending they didn't see this
Oh I saw it but I saw all the other stuff. He’s got wee bits when you think that was excellent but then the half a dozen utter shit and simple things he fucks up drives you nuts. The amount of times he over hits crosses is poor for a winger. That’s his bread and butter.
I hope he improves but I think he is what he is and he will always frustrate. I wouldn’t mind if he gave the ball away trying to be aggressive by taking on his man but he can’t do that. He’s a one trick pony and can only cross if someone plays him in behind. Against low block teams he’s useless. He would be better as an impact player when the game gets stretched especially against better teams that come out and play against us. He’s not a starter and if he is we will not improve. Same with kulusevski and Werner.
We should be prepared for a similar season if that’s the case.

I do t think we need Ramsey as we have our youngsters coming through. We have Lucas, donley, Alfie and gray who can play in various midfield roles. Is Ramsey much better than any of those. Again we will be filling up the squad with average players when what we need is game changers.
