looks nervous to me. needs to relax on the ball a bit more. looks clean on the ball in training and warming up before games, but hes over hitting passes in matches.
Good in moments today, but can look loose on the ball. He's certainly no Romero, nor even a VDV in that regard. But he had a couple of nice carries, and from his highlights he hits a good long ball.
Defensively he's a monster though. Strong in the challenge and good in the air, which shouldn't be sniffed at considering how vulnerable we are at set pieces. The ball just seems to gravitate to his head.
Overall, looks a useful player, but with lots of room to improve in possession. Perhaps that's nerves, VDV himself seems to have improved considerably in that regard as the season has progressed.

This system puts so much pressure on the full backs to play, I would have even put Kulu there over those two

I think if you try and convert VDV to a full time LB/WB/IB then he'll get (those wonderful long legs) physically wrecked.... As soon as you regularly expose him to oppo FBs and CMs he'll have the shit kicked out of him.
