Rangers are back!

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Used to have a soft spot for Rangers, Graham Roberts etc when I was a kid.

Then made the mistake of going to a Rangers supporters do when I was in Australia, and heard a rendition of Ossies Dream I thought had died out with the dinosaurs.

Funnily enough never felt the same again.

Rangers are the bookies favourite to be runners up in the Scottish Premier next season, so what does this say about Scottish football in general?

I know we (and I particularly) berate the birth/abomination of half-and-half scarves... but i'm being slightly hypocritical when I remember back to the days when THESE were all the rage:

But I guess they were just as bad, in their day!

The ONLY reason I never had one, is 'cos I couldn't find a 'Spurs/Motherwell' one...

Fuck me ! A steelman- you know how to embrace misery

Growing up I used to love watching Davie Cooper. Rangers might be a detestable band of tax dodgers but his play was a thing of beauty

I have a slightly weird and illogical - given how shit it is - interest in Scottish football. I think it's from my sticker collections in the 1980s. It all sounded so romantic. Names like Hamilton Academical, Heart of Midlothian, St. Mirren... only in later life did I get to see how utterly dreadful most of these places were.

I lived in Scotland for four years and went to lots of matches at various grounds. Slightly weirdly again, I have a soft spot for many Scottish teams, having watched them play and talked to their fans, including St. Mirren (played in white in 1987 so were an early pick), Aberdeen, the Edinburgh sides and also Celtic.

But one side that I could never find any appreciation for was Rangers. Their club is just so negative and filled with hatred. For me, they are an embarrassment to my flag and my country, and they play a big part in why so many Scots have a negative view of England. That view of Rangers was one that I heard consistently, from Gorgie to Elgin to Paisley to Dundee. In some ways it's a shame that they didn't fold; but their recent results give some light entertainment to genuine football fans across the country.

I too have a soft spot for Scottish football. When I was a kid Scottish football actually made Swedish TV almost every week since we had Henrik Larsson playing in Celtic at the time and a few other Swedes in the league as well if I remember right.

Granted as a Swede I can also relate with the Scots since our league is also very top heavy with one team being a Europe regular and thus having a shit ton more money than the rest. From what little I have seen of the modern SPL the football quality is okay and scrappy. But the league is just too top heavy.

I do think there is a very stereo typical view of Gers fans in some quarters.I have been to Ibrox and know many, and find good and bad.As an Englishman with an Irish name from a part protestant Irish background ,the shit i have had off those lovely charming green and white hooped folk down the years would fill the pages of a book.I am not saying they are all bad, but there are as many bad ones as other teams have.Certainly in my experience. On a lighter note the are playing "mouldy ol dough" by Lieutenant Pigeon on the radio.

That's probably a fair statement. I guess I have witnessed a lot of the worst of Rangers fans from my time living in Scotland, but of course one would hope that there are plenty who are just decent football fans who love their club.

Davie Cooper you could argue one of the best left footed players ever....on his day but inconsistent! Read his book he said he knew 10minuets into a game if he was going to have a good game or if it was going to pass him by! Side note no a fan of Mo Johnstone when he signed for Rangers!

I was always told, years ago, spurs was the first English club to have an affiliation with rangers, long before the <removed> love-in they have now.
I know a fair amount of spurs still go up to rangers.
And the Glasgow Spurs come down to n17 quite often, some with rangers/Spurs badges

Goes back to the 60s. We played them in a European game, and both sets of fans really got on. My dad was at that game and had a soft spot for them since it ,until he died. Though he hated Souness

"He shouldn't be here" was IIRC the quote. Can only hope he meant as a Celtic player rather than as a RC.
I did read the book growing up. He was inconsistent but my what a player when in the mood. Like Hoddle just a supreme artist.
