It is absolutely mad that we have to think like this and be in this position.

It is crazy. We are in the "they are too good to go down" territory now or will be in a month if nothing has changed with the manager.
I know but that is the position we are in. We are at Everton next, who are 5th from bottom and just 1 point above relegation places. Everton are winless in last 6 scoring just 1 goal. After that it is second from bottom Leicester who have lost last 6.

We need 4 points from these 2 games. Anything less and we are properly in the relegation mix. I don’t see a change with Big Ange before then. If we pick up 4 points, we’re probably safe from relegation. He’s more or less up to the return leg against Liverpool then and could well limp on to the end of the season

If things go badly against Everton and Leicester, he surely gets sacked, even if Mason is the short-term alternative.

I think that it’s unlikely that we will get relegated because there are still a few clubs below us, that are still struggling week in, week out.

However as long at it’s still mathematically possible, I won’t be able to rest easy.

Yes, we got back to the old Div 1 again, the following season but that doesn’t mean that I’d want us to be relegated again.

There’s no guarantee that ENIC / Levy will sell the club if we are relegated. It’s also very unlikely that anyone would fork out for a Championship club for a price that ENIC/Levy would want.
Agree but I think Levy would resign from his role and take a non executive position. Or better still, sell his stake

TV money would drop hugely domestically. Probably vanish internationally.
Matchday revenue would drop. We won't sell out and we can barely justify our ticket prices now, let alone in the Champo. It won't hold.
Son would be gone and so would all the extra revenue that brings from merch and day trippers
AIA and Nike would probably be fuming, but at least they'd be stuck with us unless they were smart enough to negotiate break clauses.
Ok we'd still have NFL and concerts I'll give you that.

If we didn't come straight back up in the first year it would get choppy. We'll still have ENIC and the belt will tighten massively, we'd have a fire sale of players and bring in all sorts of bargain bucket deals.

i think I would take it just to see the smug smile wiped off his face and the absolute anger and backstabbing amongst his longstanding and performing execs

Still staggered at the ineptitude of the club that they thought giving the managers job to a 60 year old Australian bluffer who only ever had success in 3 mickey mouse leagues, was the man to take us to success in the worlds most competitive football league.

I think genuinely there was a degree of arrogance, that they thought there was no way that they could appoint such a bad manager, that we could get relegated. Years of finishing top 6 led to a feeling of invincibility. And it just shows how quickly things can unravel in football.

You CAN appoint such a bad football manager at a top club, that you can end up bottom of the table. Just in such the same way you can appoint the right man to an average club at the right time and win the league (Ranieri). It works both ways.

Ange is the worst manager we've had in 30 years and I can't believe he's not been sacked yet.

Make no mistake, if he somehow survived till the summer, by some miracle, and the club decided to keep him as our manager, we would get relegated next year. 100%.

Remember when I said he was the australian Bielsa? About 6 months ago. Well I was wrong, he's far worse.

He also doesn’t do the crouching down thing Bielsa did. Which I liked

this is by farrrr enics biggest blunder. this has exposed them badly, i mean we all knew they were fucking useless but this really is something.

Sunk cost fallacy- South Seas Bubble- Levy in his absolute cheapness appears ready to ride it ALL the way down.
Caveat emptor, dawg.

To be fair they are very good at business related things like monetization of assets and stuff like that, but, that's also the problem: they want to run a sustainably profitable sports-entertainment business in a football league with filthy rich oligarchs and nation-states purposefully plundering their companies and countries to burn money in enormous quantities for a few extra league points. We are so from having that sort of competitive mentality, and just not resourceful enough to make up for the lack of it with good scouting and cunning transfer moves.

son being made captain tells you everything you need to know about this club.

Agree. The best I can say of it is that it was a lazy, short-sighted pick.

its a football decision made with commercial revenue in mind and not football results.
Son was made captain because he is the longest tenured, most personally accomplished, and most liked player in the squad.

You guys really do overthink this stuff. We're not shit because we have the wrong captain - no one really gives a fuck who has the arm band. We're shit because we have a manager who is 2 or 3 levels above his ability here.
