I’m going to spoiler this wall of text.
In short. I don’t think playing 3 at the back is what we need right now. It worries me if this all Tudor knows.
Just looked at Contes first season due to that “are the players shit thread” which was created that season.
And in hindsight most people would say these players are a bit shit…..( will mention them again soon)
Moura, Doherty, Reguilon, Sanchez and Hjobjerg.
And it all goes back to something I have said for years now. We got soooooo lucky with Kane.
We never would have been able to buy a striker like him. We never would have broken the bank to sign him.
Similar with Son. A gamble that paid off. After his first season most wanted him gone. Left as the 4th all time scorer for THFC.
Anyway I digress slightly.
Conte’s two seasons here. Kane and Son scored 40!! League goals between them each season.
Without them we were fucked. There was a huge drop in other players scoring goals after those 2.
Those 2 were the key. They made the system work
21/22. One other player got 5 league goals. Kulu.
We had 5 players joint 5th for goals with 2 each.
Moura, Doherty, Reguilon, Sanchez and Hjobjerg.
22/23 similar story. Just one other player on 5 goals. Bentacour
Joint 6th Players all with 2 goals. Dier, Royal, Kulu, Davies, Sessegnon.
Again mainly players our fanbase derided as shit.
Without big goals from our two main forwards contes system would not have worked.
Our goals from midfield and other attacking areas almost non existent. A bit like now.
The difference is we did have Kane and Son. Generational world class talents.
Who are the two key forwards we are banking on right now for the equivalent of a goal a game between them?
As an aside at Chelsea conte had Costa and Hazard -36 league goals between them- again levels above what we have right now. They also had plenty of other players on 5 goals + and Fabregas managed an assist early every 100mins on the pitch.
And they had probably the best pure screening midfielder the premier league has seen.
Us Simons arguably are most creative player available right now, an assist every 367 minutes.
And the journeyman Paulinha. Great.
We are in a shitshow. And I’m really not convinced playing 3 at the back is the answer. We will give up more chances. So we’re trusting our forwards to be clinical. I hope I’m wrong and this bloke knows exactly what he’s doing and the job he’s got.
And concentration - maintaining levels over 90 mins, not giving the ball away constantly (Xavi) not doing anything stupid (Vic) listening to the manager (VDV)Think it's less about formations, more about effort personally.
I get your logic, but I profoundly disagree with it. It's inherently more risky to bet on something that is further away in time, simply because more can happen between now and then to change the equation, to change the inputs if you like. Likewise, in this scenario we have a diminishing number of opportunities to get points. It's tactically far better to try and get points in the next game. The only exception would be where the odds are so stacked against us that the very small probability of points is outweighed by the "resting players" benefit for the subsequent game. In our situation that could apply in the Liverpool game, though I think even then you'd give things a go at least in the first half. Forest were 1 minute from a point at Anfield. To elaborate further on why I would rest players against Fulham - I think we had more of a chance against Palace and beating them is more impactful than beating Fulham.
Palace played last night and are away to United on Sunday - by the time our game with them comes round we won’t have left London for over 3 weeks - I think we have the ability to blow them away and look a lot sharper.
Beating them brings them back to within 3 points of us - I prefer our run in to theirs.
My worry is we go hell for leather against Fulham, lose and pick up injuries and suspensions for the Palace which subsequently stop us winning that one

You make sense but we can't do what you suggest we are woefully out of form and need just beat what's infront of us. We need to just get the team functioning. To elaborate further on why I would rest players against Fulham - I think we had more of a chance against Palace and beating them is more impactful than beating Fulham.

That’s like something you’d hear at kids football.
It’s the premier league. Effort is a pre-requisite just to compete.
After that you’re playing at the peak league level of club football.
Formations and tactics and the ability to tweak that shit in game does actually make a difference.

You inspired me to run a simulator.
City finish with 89 points, Woolwich 88.
We are 12th with 47 points.
West Ham go down.
Very odd isn't it. Yet in the first 6 weeks in the season we were being lauded for our fitness. And Frank was big on running and looking at effort data etc etc I'd really like the inside story of what went on under Frank. It looks like a mutiny more than anything. Cunts downed tools and headed to Nandos to chill with Djed!Whenever we have a rest we look even worse. Like there's no fitness in the group.
Think these lot need a lot of match fitness tbh
Gallagher looks gassed after 40 minutes

I forgot Villa were also still in Europa. That *could* be beneficial when we play them.
We play Palace just before RO16 1st leg.I forgot Villa were also still in Europa. That *could* be beneficial when we play them.
Do you think we'd be doing any better if we played a back 4?
Do you think suddenly we'd start to create more chances and defend better using a different formation?
Man, both the CL and EL draws are horrifically imbalanced
