All this talk of Sunderland is making me think I should rewatch "Sunderland til I die" on Netflix. Bet there are lots of similarities. I remember watching it years ago and thinking what a farce the club as. Suspect we are that magnified.

We were a well run business.
That defence goes out of the window when you finish 17th in the PL, and follow it up with whatever happens this season.
You can only praise the business side of things as long as your maintaining a somewhat respectable performance on the pitch alongside the "frugality".
As soon as you begin to perform poorly on the pitch, the business side is harmed because your not maximising your income.
Plus we're now paying out through the nose to useless (so far) players on massive wages like Xavi, RKM, Gallagher.
On the plus side the net spend bellends and the wages to turnover twats have got what they wanted.
We all have so many theories about why we are on the precipice. None are probably entirely wrong but neither is any probably exactly right.
I have put forward a few but I think that any club who finish 17th, regardless of any cup success is scarred.
It's also got a lot of players for whom losing does not hurt enough. Who are probably at ease with how it feels.
With that in mind you must lose a portion of that team or ensure you replace a lot more than 3 or 4 and you only replace them with quality players of a certain age.
Those who are probably a bit fiery but with characters and personalities that aren't comfortable with losing, that do agitate when they aren't in the team because they have shown they are good enough.
If we go down, I'm more concerned that we will seek to keep too many of the players who just don't feel bad enough about losing and who, if we got into another cycle of defeats would simply shrug their shoulders and evaporate.
Whether we stay up or get relegated a lot of the squad need/must be moved on.

In all seriousness, what about the loan taken out for the stadium, what will that look like moving forward?

The problem is that we sign players based on their expected wages, resale value, and market opportunity, not because they're a good fit for the manager or would work well with the current squad. Ange needed a GK who's good with his feet and got Vicario, and he needed a winger who's good in build up and got Johnson. Frank needed a replacement for Son, so we bought Tel, who was objectively bad during his loan spell. Frank desperately needed a LB and winger in January, so we brought in a teenage LB and sold Johnson while buying Gallagher, who was available for a cheap price.
What other successful club in world football operates like this?
Then Lange and ENIC sit around and blame the manager for not making players who have no chemistry together and no complementary skills play well as a cohesive unit.
Good riddance. There are many higher factors at play than him as to our current situation but his attitude over the last 3 or so years feels like its set the tone with a lot of these players......and we made him captain. Getting relegated and then making sure he's back for the world cup is the perfect ending to his time with us.
The damning thing is, I don't think we'll miss him that much.
That Romero news is the best we’ve had in weeks - worst captain in our history and an absolute liability, I simply cannot wait until he is gone

De Zerbi needs to find a way to get into the players' heads, and pretty dumb quickly.
I don't think we needed a Sunderland to tell us the players are fearful. That's natural.
