You’re right on one thing, we are running out of games, no point pretending otherwise.
It’s game by game now, and more importantly it’s relative to what West Ham do as much as us.
If we lose to Aston Villa but they go and lose away at Brentford, nothing’s changed. If Brentford do us a favour and we nick a draw or better, that’s a swing in our favour. If we both lose, it’s just as you were.
Worth noting as well, the next two ganes they play before us, so we’ll already know the lay of the land. That takes the guesswork out of it. We’ll know exactly whether we’re matching, chasing, or have a chance to close the gap before we even kick off. Then the last two are played at the same time
The real pivot point is a bit further down the line. When they’ve got Woolwich and we’re at home to Leeds United, that’s where you expect the gap to shift if it’s going to at all.
So yeah, chances are running out, but it’s not about one result in isolation. It’s about taking whatever’s there each week and hoping the pressure tells on them as much as it does on us.
