I was at that match as a 10 year old viewing from the Paxton. Mistakenly thought that those jumping down were spurs fans, who ran across the no man's land bit in the Park Lane and jumped into the United bit. But later found out that it was some United fans who had been discovered in the Shelf and had jumped down for their own safety.
I used to spend at least as much time watching the crowd in them days as the football. United at home in particular, was always a whole day out, not just the match. From walking down the High Road before and after the match, always a chance of it going off, to the ground being full an hour before.
at that match or a close by year, I remember United players like McQueen coming on the pitch in a suit to wind up the crowd, holding up 2 fingers to the Shelf signifying their 2 nil victory before if I remember right; to which he received a rendition of 'Gordon is a moron' from the Shelf.
