I remember that semi final 2nd leg against Liverpool. Battered them for the last 20 minutes, but just couldn't get that 3rd goal.
Worse, was the season before. Going out to that horrific last minute goal against Chelscum in the League Cup semi final 2nd leg.
I'm sure we'd have retained both trophies.

I was abroad in France at the time and didn't find out until I'd got hold of some UK tabloid some days later.

First leg I saw the highlights on Sportsnight, in those days you didn't know the score even then, so having gone 2-1 up then 2-3 down with a free header from a corner was like watching in real time

Gutting to lose to them.

Very minor consolation. That was their last hurrah for over 20 years. They went on to lose the final to Stoke who were a decent team at the time, and they did nothing for years apart from a few relegations.

Without the Abram billions their par performance would be yoyoing between Top 2 divisions, bit like the other London clubs - Spam, Palace, Fulham, Watford

Meathook scored for us in that 1st leg - his only goal in our colours.
You are right - Stoke were a very good team in the early mid-70's.
Lost those two semi finals to the scum - and came so close to knocking out Ajax in the UEFA Cup.
Should really have won the League in 75 - but suffered horribly with injuries. Think 3 of their key players broke a leg that season. They went downhill after that.
