I love old pictures, showing the Shelf and stands choccablock. Nothing would beat the atmosphere of a packed house at The Lane.
great atmosphere and a great view. The Shelf in full song could be deafening, with the sound bouncing back down from the ceiling/roof only a few feet above.

I've just remembered that Hunter Davies The Glory Game had a chapter on an away tie behind the Iron Curtain where the oppo acted like animals and half our team ended up walking wounded. Billy Nick and the rest of the management team were absolutely raging with them, and of course the pathetic ref who let them get away with it.

When I read that book and they talked about that game, I desperately wanted to see some footage of it. Sounded like it was a crime scene on the pitch. I wonder if there is any actual footage out there of the match.
