Sure focus on what he can do rather than what he can’t - He’s a better passer than I gave him credit for (3 assists in recent games), presses really well and he give us a strong aerial presence in the front line (which is the one attacking attribute where Sonny is really lacking).

Not gonna bet but will be hoping for a Richy header into the back of the net Vs Palace.
If he continues the stats 3A 1G in 1/4 of the season, he’d end on 12A and 4G.

For a LWF who presses like mad and is a physical challenge to any defender, I’ll be very very happy.

Think as soon as he gets a goal with his foot, that pressure will release and he may well start scoring more freely (look what the Goal and Assist Vs Sheffield has done, obviously also admitting needing help and seemingly getting some).

Strange we have two very similar “issues” on both Wing Forwards games, give plenty, but short of Goals. Hopefully one falls to them both Vs Palace, to release that pent up frustration.

He's nowhere near good enough to be a starting LW for a team fighting for the top 4; he'll never score the goals we need. However, his pressing tonight was immense, and he worked really hard. But that just isn't good enough.

He never looked like scoring.

His technique is still awful.

Just look at the moment at 1:14 in the video, when he receives a great ball from PEH. It's laughable really.

I thought Ange was going to run across the pitch and thump him for that. He is improving but I just worry that his ceiling is pretty low and we can do better than him. I'm all for effort but a bit like Sissoko we need so much more than that, Ange and the rest of the players deserve more than that in the 1st team.

I wonder what they do with the next forward.

Long term planning for life after Son needs to start but not too early or the player will ride the bench.

LWF would be good but then we have a logjam.

Hopefully, things look clearer before January.
We need to go early in case its a flop and we need to go again. If not, then the new guy can force Son onto the bench, making it easier to transition.

He's not a winger. His end product is poor and he hasn't got the ability to go past defenders with any degree of consistency. He's a striker going through a bad patch.

He had an assist last night.

I also remember him whipping in some decent crosses.

He should have had a few yellow cards dished out to the defenders against him too.

If people are watching that first 45 mins last night and can't see what he brings then I despair.

He seems to be contributing in more games now which is promising.

I must admit, I was losing faith and will happily admit that however he does seem to be improving slowly but surely which is good.

I thought he did well last night. For now I think the left spot is his and his mentality is improving. I don't think Johnson looks comfortable on the left and won't be taking that spot.

What the fuck?

Was almost our best player in the first half.
Yep. First half he was fantastic, a perfect wide player in Ange-Ball.

1. He reaches the far post, time and time again - he will score more from these situations as time goes by
2. He gives width,
3. Great rotations with Son, Udogie and Madders
4. And he presses wonderfully. I always knew he had the legs as at Everton and Watford he was a solo target man who ran channels for 90mins but now Ange has him pressing with Son and Madderson in a very specific way, really intelligent not just charging out to CB's and 'keepers, all designed for oppo to play the ball under pressure (poorly) for us to counter-press the 2nd phase (BOTH goals came from it last night).

Furthermore, he performs perfectly with his back to the goal, and actually does this better than Son (probably Son's only major weakness). And he has that pass from outside to inside towards the “undefendable zone” that has seen Udogie, Son and Madderson getting onto them.

His pressing was still very good in the 2nd half but as Ange points out as a collective on the ball we weren't good (still better than our opponent though).

I think we've all enjoyed watching Gill in his cameos since we bought him, me included, but it's starting to become clear why he's not getting onto the pitch, he can't press like Richy, he can't hold the ball up like Richy, even though Richy should have scored more goals now at the back stick, I'd bet on him scoring more than Gill would from the same positions based on his previous work with Everton etc...
