Don't think we will agree on this.

Let's see what if any improvement comes after he is recovered. His recent play easily warrants at least this in my view.

His time here thus far has been a mess of many factors. Ignoring that is simply not honest....

(Chronologically):

Yr 1

- Played at RW (was poor)
- Inured
- World Cup
- Injured
- Short run of good performances at LW(*) > Dropped anyway.

Yr 2

- New manager
- Couple of games at ST that didn't go well
- Mental health problems revealed.
- A few improved performances at LW(*) (grabbing a few G&A along the way and creating decent chances that weren't taken).
- Injury revealed (which is said to have been plaguing him for some time > Surgery.

(*Note the theme!)

what makes folk think he will turn into a good striker now ?
he was never much good at Everton or watford, so why become good here ?

It may or may not pan out for him here, but hamstringing him with whether or not he's an good ST (specifically) is pointless. He was a good player at those previous clubs and we didn't pay all that money because he'd showed nothing.

(I've said from day dot - and been proved right. He's best at LW.)

Nah, if decent money is offered in January then get rid. We need to be ruthless.

We should have learned our lesson by now, big money players who flop almost never turn it around. We need to move him on quickly before he ends up staying here for years like Lo Celso and Ndombele. He has made almost no meaningful contribution, there is no reason to keep him.
This is absolutely essential to maintain the status of being a big club in the long term. Less faffing about and hoping with certain players, more taking the hit in the short term, thinking long term potential gains and moving on, innit.

100%. Anyone outside our starting 11/12 should be moved on if anyone is stupid enough to bid

I get what you are saying.

But well... how to say it 40 mil would be quite massive overpayment.
I'd say the goal post is more like 30. If any Saudi side would pay 30 for him = Saudis are overpaying for players.

As things stand, I cannot see anyone in Europe paying even 20 mil for him.
U might find someone like Brentford, Palace or Fulham will lump up 30M
